Fifth Day at RWITC Concludes with American Eagle’s Thrilling Finale

The curtain came down on Sunday’s Mumbai card with Race No. 10, The Synthesis Trophy Div II, a Class IV maiden contest for 3-year-old Indian horses, run over 1400 metres at the Royal Western India Turf Club on 21 December 2025, with the scheduled start at 5:15 PM. Bringing the Mumbai race results 21 December to a fitting climax, American Eagle produced a composed and authoritative display to register his maiden success. Smoothly partnered by Aditya Waydande, the Shazaan Shah-trained runner stopped the clock at 1:24:414, racing for M/s Ashok Ranpise, Narendra Kumar Ambwani, Kishore P. Rungta, Ketan R. M., Vishwajeet Sood & Pranav Ranpise.

Settled nicely through the early exchanges, American Eagle travelled strongly in midfield before being angled out on the turn. Once asked to lengthen, he responded generously, quickening clear inside the final furlong to score with something in hand and sign off the day on a confident note. Savage Peacock (J: Shrikant Kamble, T: Adhirajsingh Jodha) stayed on gamely to finish second, while Bezalel (J: A. Sandesh, T: P. S. Chouhan) kept on for third, completing the frame behind a deserving winner.

Earlier in the afternoon, the day’s racing had begun with Race No. 1, The Castlebridge Trophy over 1400 metres at 12:45 PM, where Madison set the tone with a decisive win under Neeraj Rawal for trainer Nirad Karanjawala, carrying the victory for M/s Parag C. Mengale & Amit Vilas Malvadkar, ahead of Ashwa Ankara and Marlboro Man. The tempo continued in Race No. 2, The Synthesis Trophy Div I, as All For Love justified support, with Yash Narredu guiding the M. Narredu-trained runner to victory for Mrs B. E. Saldanha & Others, holding off Lucio and Bravo Zulu.

Speed took centre stage in Race No. 3, The P. D. Avasia Trophy Div II over 1200 metres, where Eastern Monarch, ridden by Aditya Waydande and trained by Sanjay Kolse, scored smartly for M/s S. R. Sanas & Others, with Enforcer and Ministry of Time filling the minor placings. The 1400-metre Beautiful Stranger Trophy saw Earth dominate proceedings for Ramswarup and Sanjay Kolse, delivering a polished win for Mr Vikram Bachhawat, ahead of Red Bishop and Opus Dei.

The sprinting action resumed in Race No. 5, The Faiz Jasdanwalla Trophy, as Admirable showcased his class under A. Sandesh for trainer P. S. Chouhan, winning for Dr Ram H. Shroff & Others, with Invictor and Rambo chasing him home. In Race No. 6, The P. D. Avasia Trophy Div I, Mriga struck late in the day for A. S. Peter and B. Prithviraj, delivering success to Mr Prakash Kishan Srivastava, while Heaven’s Rhythm and El Moran completed the top three.

Middle-distance honours in the prestigious Gracias Saldanha Memorial Million went to Tiepolo, who stayed on strongly under P. Trevor to score for P. Shroff and owners Mr & Mrs Vijay B. Shirke & Others, ahead of King Ke and Endurance. The spotlight then shifted to the feature event, the Indian 2000 Guineas (Grade 1), where Baychimo rose to the occasion, with A. Sandesh steering the Adhirajsingh Jodha-trained runner to a memorable victory for Diamond Band Racing Syndicate Pvt Ltd & Others, defeating Sovereign King and Namiri.

The penultimate contest, The Gulamhusein Essaji Trophy, provided another competitive finish as Looking Like A Wow prevailed under Ramswarup for trainer Subhag Singh, carrying the victory for Mr Sudendu Shah & Others, with Cornerstone and Absolute Gorgeous finishing in close attendance.

With American Eagle sealing the finale in style, the fifth day of the Mumbai Meeting 2025/26 concluded on a high, rounding off an action-packed afternoon that blended promising maidens, competitive handicaps, and elite Classic-quality performances.
