Day 11 Ends on a High as Desert Classic Triumphs in The Queen’s Necklace Million

The final race of the Mumbai Meeting 2025/26, Race 9 – The Queen’s Necklace Million – delivered an electrifying conclusion to Sunday, 1st February 2026, with a standout performance from Desert Classic (J: Mukesh Kumar, T: P. S. Chouhan). Run over 1200 metres for Class V Indian horses rated 1 to 26 at 7:15 PM, Desert Classic, owned by Mr M N Mirza, asserted authority to cap off a thrilling day of racing. Fans following Mumbai race results 1 February were treated to a decisive performance that highlighted tactical brilliance and finishing speed.

From the break, Desert Classic settled just off the early leaders, conserving energy while keeping a keen tactical position. As the field turned for home, Mukesh Kumar angled the winner wide to exploit an opening along the rail, unleashing a powerful burst in the final 200 metres to claim a clear-cut win. Desert Classic’s timing and acceleration ensured a commanding finish.

The runner-up honours went to Ministry of Time (J: P. Trevor, T: Aman Altaf Hussain), who stayed in close contention throughout and finished strongly. Santana Row (J: C. S. Jodha, T: Adhirajsingh Jodha) closed well to secure third place, rounding off a competitive top three in a tightly fought contest.

The day had already provided plenty of excitement across the earlier eight races. In Race 1, The Tattersalls Million, Vincero (J: Aditya Waydande, T: Shazaan Shah) claimed a stylish victory for Mr Jaydev M Mody rep J M Livestock Pvt Ltd & Mr Vrajesh Prabhakar Udani. Race 2’s Keki D. Mehta Memorial Million saw Alexios (J: David Allan, T: Sanjay Kolse) storm to the front for Mr Geoffrey B Nagpal & Mrs Charonne Nagpal.

Grade III honours in Race 3, The Rusi Patel Trophy, went to Pride’s Prince (J: Mustakim Alam, T: Imtiaz A. Sait) for a commanding win under a large ownership group including Mr Sudendu Shah and associates. Sprint action in Race 4, The Sir Homi Mehta Million, was dominated by Lady Scarlet (J: P. Trevor, T: Adhirajsingh Jodha) while Race 5, the Thackers Eclipse Stakes of India (Grade II), witnessed King Ke (J: C. Umesh, T: P. Shroff) clinch the 2000-metre contest.

The 5 PM slot in Race 6, The Rattonsey Multi-Million, delivered an exciting finish as Buckingham (J: David Allan, T: Karthik Ganapathy) surged ahead of D’Artagnan and Nebula. The highlight of the day, Race 7 – The Villoo C. Poonawalla Indian Derby (Grade I) – went to Fynbos (J: Tom Marquand, T: P. Shroff), with Sovereign King and Kings Gambit following closely. Race 8, The Coromandel Gromor Million powered by Coromandel International Ltd, saw Social Butterfly (J: P. Trevor, T: Dallas Todywalla) fly past the finish line ahead of Scaramouche and Fontana.

With Desert Classic’s win, the Mumbai meeting concluded in spectacular style, leaving racing fans buzzing after an action-packed card and providing plenty of talking points for upcoming feature races later this season.
