The fourth race of the Mumbai Meeting 2025/26, The Lt. Col. Govind Singh (VRC) Trophy for 2-year-old maiden Indian horses over 1400 metres, produced a memorable performance as Buckingham (J: Antony Raj S., T: Karthik Ganapathy) surged to victory at 3:00 PM on Sunday, 28th December 2025. Racing in the colours of Mr Arun Alagappan rep. Arun Alagappan Racing LLP, Buckingham clocked a winning time of 1:23:977, showcasing composure and early speed that set him apart from the field. Buckingham broke sharply from the gates and settled in a prominent position throughout the run. Antony Raj S. timed his challenge perfectly, allowing Buckingham to edge ahead in the final 200 metres, demonstrating both acceleration and tactical awareness beyond his maiden company. The colt’s smooth stride and finishing kick left little doubt about the outcome as he crossed the line decisively.
The runner-up honours went to D’Artagnan (J: Vivek G., T: P. Shroff), who pressed the leader throughout and finished a respectable second, staying within striking distance to record a competitive time. Alexios (J: A. Sandesh, T: Sanjay Kolse) finished strongly to claim third, rounding out a closely contested podium in what proved to be a gripping juvenile contest.
