Sunday’s sixth-hour feature at the Royal Western India Turf Club belonged to MARGARETTA. Contesting Race 5, The Poonawalla Breeders’ Multi-Million (Grade I) over 1400 metres for Indian three-year-olds, the P. Shroff-trained filly rose to the occasion with assurance. Her success became a defining highlight of the Mumbai race result 22 February programme, rewarding owner Mr Mehernosh H. Deboo with a performance of genuine class at 6:00 PM.

From the moment the gates flew open, MARGARETTA travelled with poise, settling into a comfortable rhythm behind the early pace before steadily improving her position approaching the bend. Vivek G. judged the tempo to perfection, angling his mount into clear running at the top of the straight. When asked for her effort, MARGARETTA responded decisively, quickening smartly inside the final furlong to assert her superiority and put the contest beyond doubt.

LADY SCARLET, partnered by P. Trevor and trained by Adhirajsingh Jodha, ran a commendable race to claim second, staying on gamely but unable to match the winner’s finishing surge. BUCKINGHAM, ridden by Antony Raj S. for trainer Karthik Ganapathy, finished third after keeping on steadily in the closing stages. The trio drew clear of the remainder, underlining the quality of the Grade I feature.

With the feature event decided, anticipation now builds toward The Florrie and Freddy Sopher Gold Trophy at 6:30 PM, where another competitive field is set to continue an absorbing evening of racing at Mumbai.
