RWITC Opens 2026 Racing Calendar with Action-Packed Eight-Race Extravaganza

The Mumbai meeting will open the 2026 racing calendar on 4 January, Sunday at the Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC) with an eight-race programme, led by the Rs.12 lakh Kheem Singh Salver, a 1200-metre maiden for three-year-old Indian horses. The card will combine sprint and middle-distance races across Class II to Class V.

Racing will be staged from 1:30 PM through to 5:00 PM, with individual race purses ranging from Rs.5 lakh to Rs.12 lakh. Multiple Class IV handicaps will feature across the card, supported by a selective Class II staying contest and a closing Class V event.

The programme will open at 1:30 PM with The White Metal Trophy Div II, a 1200 metre sprint for Class IV Indian horses rated 20 to 46. Manor House, Applause, Adonis, Flashman, and Goomah will contest the Rs.5,50,000 opener.

At 2:00 PM, The Aslam Kader Salver will be run over 2000 metres for Class IV horses in the same rating band. Dedication, Little John, Diego Garcia, Cornerstone, and Allez L’Etoile will be tested over the longer trip, where stamina and race placement will be influential.

The Behram A. Engineer Salver at 2:30 PM will be contested over 1400 metres for Class III horses rated 40 to 66. Sir Baffert, Densetsu, Axlrod, Tyrannus, and Star Impact will line up for the Rs.6,50,000 stake in a competitive middle-distance event.

At 3:00 PM, the card will reach its centerpiece with The Kheem Singh Salver, a maiden race restricted to three-year-old Indian horses over 1200 metres. Loyal Lover, Storm Majesty, Sun King, Margaretta, and Mystica will compete for the day’s highest purse of Rs.12,00,000.

The afternoon will continue at 3:30 PM with The Maharashtra, Gujarat & Goa-Area Trophy, a Class II contest over 2000 metres for horses rated 60 to 86. Alpine Star, King Ke, and Kimiko will contest the Rs.9,00,000 staying event.

Sprint racing will return at 4:00 PM with The White Metal Trophy Div I, a 1200 metre Class IV race for horses rated 20 to 46. Ariyana Star, Ashwa Gypsy, Baklava, Believe, and Escape Velocity will line up for Rs.5,50,000.

The penultimate race at 4:30 PM, The F. K. Vakil Salver, will be run over 1000 metres for Class IV horses. Akitania, Eloquent, Enforcer, Zephyr, and Rafael will contest another Rs.5,50,000 sprint, where early speed is expected to be decisive.

The meeting will conclude at 5:00 PM with The R. R. Komandur Plate, a 1200 metre Class V event for horses rated 1 to 26. Whisper, Agatha, Sakana, Untitled, and Samson will compete for a closing purse of Rs.5,00,000.
