RWITC to Host Seven-Race Meeting at Iconic Mahalaxmi Racecourse in Mumbai

The Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC) will present an evening of competitive racing at the iconic Mahalaxmi Racecourse in Mumbai on Monday, 30 March. Under the floodlights of the storied venue, seven races will be staged, featuring a blend of maiden and handicap events, with the highlight of the meeting being the The Western India Race Horse Owners’ Association Trophy, scheduled as the second race on the card.

The evening will get underway with The Brave Hunter Plate, a Class V handicap for Indian horses rated 1 to 26. The 1600-metre mile race, scheduled for 4:30 PM with a total purse of Rs.5,00,000, will feature the contenders Abhyankar (A. S. Peter), Maratha Admiral (N. S. Parmar), Jackson (A. Sandesh), Mighty Hero, Flash Mob, Remy Red, and Royal Champ. The race is expected to unfold as a tactical contest, with early pace likely to influence the outcome.

Next on the card, the feature race The Western India Race Horse Owners’ Association Trophy will attract keen attention. A Class III handicap for Indian horses rated 40 to 66 over 2000 metres, it will be run at 5:00 PM with Rs.6,50,000 in total prize money. The field comprises Caccini (A. Sandesh), Looking Like a Wow (P. Trevor), Wings of Fury (Vivek G.), Black Thunder, and Nostalgia. Stamina and strategic positioning will be decisive in this extended-distance contest.

The Blue Pencil Plate, a maiden for three-year-old Indian horses over 1000 metres, will follow at 5:30 PM with Rs.12,00,000 on offer. The runners include Absolute Emperor (Mukesh Kumar), Go Tonto (S. A. Amit), Lucky Diamond (Yash Narredu), Umeed, Dreams Come True, G Valentino, and Queen Caroline. With several debutants in the line-up, the sprint is expected to produce a lively and closely fought contest.

Middle-distance contenders will be tested in The Amber Flash Plate, another maiden for three-year-old Indian horses over 1600 metres. Scheduled for 6:00 PM with a total prize of Rs.12,00,000, the entries are Absolute Majesty (N. B. Kuldeep), Caspian (Mukesh Kumar), Hermanus (Kirtish Bhagat), Incredible Luck, Shaandaar, Age of Reason, and Golden Eye. The race should reward those with both tactical speed and staying power.

The evening will continue with The Cursetjee Dhunjishaw Salver, a Class II handicap for horses rated 60 to 86 over 1400 metres. Set for 6:30 PM with Rs.7,50,000 on offer, the field includes Chagall (S. Siddharth), Your Unforgettable (P. Trevor), Ardakan (Vivek G.), Earth, Big Red, Art Collector, Bee Magical, and Rambler. Positioning and finishing strength are expected to play a key role in this competitive affair.

Sprinters rated 20 to 46 will go to post in The Busy Lizzie Plate, a Class IV handicap over 1100 metres at 7:00 PM with a total purse of Rs.5,50,000. The contenders feature Ensky (C. Umesh), American Eagle (Yash Narredu), Moonlight Kiss (N. Bhosale), Esteban, House of Lords, Key West, Rafael, and Ekla Cholo. Quick starts and race tempo are likely to influence the final positions.

The meeting will conclude with The Secret Treasure Plate, a Class III handicap for horses rated 40 to 66 over 1200 metres. Scheduled for 7:30 PM with Rs.6,50,000 on offer, the runners are Storm Cloud (Bharat Singh), Matisse (A. Prakash), Neutralist (P. Trevor), Densetsu, Eastern Monarch, and Akitania. The closing contest is expected to provide a spirited finish to the evening of racing.
