Woodbine’s inner turf course once again brought out the best in Miss Vyvyanne as the six-year-old mare delivered a commanding performance in Saturday’s $200,000 Highlander Stakes (G2T). Showing her trademark speed and determination, she led from the opening strides and secured another important victory over the five-furlong distance.
Miss Vyvyanne wins Highlander Stakes after producing a confident front-running display against a competitive field of older horses at Woodbine.
Breaking sharply from the inside draw under jockey Pietro Moran, Miss Vyvyanne quickly moved into the lead in the five-furlong turf sprint. Western Whirl and G T Five Hundred followed closely behind as the early pace was set through the opening quarter in :22.22.
The order remained unchanged as the field turned for home, with Miss Vyvyanne travelling smoothly and appearing comfortable in front. The Gail Cox-trained mare continued to travel strongly, waiting for the final push before extending her advantage.
Once asked for her effort in the stretch, Miss Vyvyanne responded immediately. The mare pulled clear in the closing stages to win by two lengths, while Western Whirl finished second. G T Five Hundred and Outlaw Kid shared third place after finishing together.
The final time for the five furlongs was :56.27.
“She’s a cool filly, very easy,” said Moran after the race. “She’s quick and when she gets comfortable out there, she just finishes strong. She gives her best effort every time. This year, she’s better than ever.”
The Highlander Stakes result added another memorable chapter to Miss Vyvyanne’s career. The daughter of Rainbow Heir, bred from the Half Ours mare Caribean Beat, now owns an impressive record of 12 wins from 25 starts.
Her latest success also strengthened her remarkable record over Woodbine’s inner turf course. Miss Vyvyanne has now won her last five starts at the five-furlong distance on the Toronto oval’s turf layout.
Owned by Ralph R. Murray and Calstar Farm, Miss Vyvyanne was claimed for $32,000 last June by trainer Gail Cox and Murray. The move was based on the mare’s consistency and natural speed.
“We just liked that she was a fast filly,” Cox said. “She’s run well for everybody that had her. She just seemed to be very consistent.”
Bred in Florida by Tom McCrocklin and Gerald Martin, Miss Vyvyanne began her racing career in September 2022, finishing third in a five-and-a-half-furlong contest on Woodbine’s main track. She broke her maiden in her next start on Nov. 5 over the same distance.
The mare later produced a four-race winning streak between Aug. 31, 2025, and Apr. 11, 2026, building momentum before adding the Highlander Stakes trophy to her record.
The latest Miss Vyvyanne wins Highlander Stakes performance confirmed her status as one of Woodbine’s leading turf sprinters, particularly over the five-furlong trip where she continues to produce her strongest efforts.
