The H.H. Jayachamaraja Wadiyar Cup, the marquee event on Day 4 of the Bangalore Summer Meeting 2025, delivered a spectacular finish befitting its prestigious status. Held at 4:00 PM, the 1400-meter contest was open to horses aged four years and older and featured a strong lineup of experienced runners vying for top honours.
Rising to the occasion was Meropi, ridden to perfection by P. Trevor and trained by Aashay Doctor, who edged out the competition in a heart-stopping photo-finish to seal a career-defining victory. The seasoned mare showed grit and determination, responding gamely under pressure in the final strides to clinch the win.
Prana, handled by jockey Vivek G. and trained by Prasanna Kumar, ran a gallant race to finish second. Always in touch with the leaders, Prana quickened well down the home stretch but fell just short of the winning post in a time too close to call without the aid of the camera.
Completing the top three was Knotty Charmer, piloted by Antony Raj S., also from the Prasanna Kumar yard. The gelding delivered a steady run, staying on well to finish in the money and giving the trainer a notable double entry among the placings.
Meropi’s win adds a touch of class to an already distinguished resume, and the powerful performance from P. Trevor once again affirmed his reputation as one of India’s top riders. For trainer Aashay Doctor, this marks a significant triumph on the Bangalore turf.
Next up is the Ramkirpal Plate, a fast-paced 1200-meter sprint scheduled for 4:30 PM. Stay tuned as the excitement continues at the Bangalore Turf Club.
