Medoro Osunitas Stakes 2025: Del Mar Victory for CRK Stable’s Star
Medoro Osunitas Stakes 2025 opened Del Mar’s turf stakes calendar on Sunday with a well-judged win by C R K Stable’s Medoro. Ridden by Umberto Rispoli and trained by Peter Eurton, the 4-year-old Honor Code filly sat just off the pace before unleashing a late run to take the $109,000 mile-long contest in 1:34.88. She scored by 1¾ lengths from a field of ten, improving her record to five wins from nine starts and boosting career earnings to $416,600.
The early fractions were set at :23.05, :47.12, and 1:11.82, and Medoro traveled comfortably throughout. Rispoli angled her out at the top of the stretch and found a clear lane, asking her to quicken three furlongs from home. The filly responded with authority, sustaining her run through the wire. Her latest performance highlighted her maturity, particularly her ability to settle just off the pace and deliver a precise finishing effort—something the connections have been working on since last season.
Trainer Peter Eurton credited a spring freshening as a key factor in her development. “She’s carrying more weight, she’s more forward,” he said. “That’s made a difference.” He added that the filly had been training well at Santa Anita in the weeks leading up to the race and looked better physically than she had last fall. This was her first start of the summer meet and marked her fourth black-type win.
Rispoli, riding Medoro for the first time this season, echoed the trainer’s thoughts. “She did everything right. She was relaxed, and when I asked her, she gave it to me. That’s what you want from a horse who’s come back fresh.”
Medoro Osunitas Stakes 2025 Recap
Owned by Lee and Susan Searing of Arcadia, California, racing under the C R K Stable banner, Medoro has been a consistent performer in California’s turf division. Her tactical speed and versatility over a mile make her a candidate for upgraded company this summer. The Yellow Ribbon Handicap (G2) or John C. Mabee Stakes (G2) could be among her potential targets at Del Mar, though Eurton has not confirmed any next steps.
The win gave Rispoli his third Osunitas title and 36th career stakes win at Del Mar. For Eurton, it was his first win in the race and 13th overall stakes score at the seaside oval. The Osunitas served as the featured event on Del Mar’s opening weekend, which now transitions into a Thursday-to-Sunday schedule for the remainder of the summer season.
Looking ahead, the meet heats up with four stakes races scheduled between Friday and Sunday, including Saturday’s Grade II San Diego Handicap and the Grade I Bing Crosby Stakes. These will feature leading dirt runners, but for turf fillies like Medoro, her win in the Medoro Osunitas Stakes 2025 puts her firmly in the frame for bigger assignments.
