The seventh day of the Bangalore Summer Meeting kicked off with an exciting start as MASTER WAY galloped to a decisive victory in The Santorini Star Plate, a 1400-meter race exclusively for horses rated 00 to 25. The event flagged off at 2:00 PM under clear skies, with ideal track conditions noted earlier in the day—good going with an average penetrometer reading of 3.5 cm. Notably, the race was run without the use of whips, adding an extra layer of skill and discipline for both jockeys and horses.
Ridden confidently by P. Sai Kumar and trained by Umar Shariff, MASTER WAY showed remarkable form throughout the contest to claim the top honours in commanding fashion by timing at 1:27.27. The gelding found his rhythm early, maneuvered well despite the restrained riding style, and surged ahead when it mattered most to seal his win in front of an enthusiastic crowd at the Bangalore Turf Club.
Finishing second was PRINCESS JASMINE, guided by jockey Suhas K. and trained by V. Lokanath in 1:27.86. Despite a strong stretch run, she couldn’t close the gap on the eventual winner but displayed good promise for future outings.
SUNLIT PATH, ridden by Ramswarup and trained by K. Purshotham, completed the podium with a gritty performance that showcased stamina and consistency. The horse maintained pace throughout the straight and held off late challengers to secure third position by timing at 1:28.90.
The racing surface, aided by railings positioned 7.5 meters wide from the 1600m to the winning post, was praised for its balance between speed and safety. As the crowd settled in following an electrifying opener, attention quickly turned to the second race of the day—The Ascot Plate, a maiden event scheduled for 2:30 PM.
With the Bangalore Summer Meeting in full swing, the early signs point to another memorable day at the races.
