Luster confirmed her status as Canada’s leading three-year-old filly with a commanding performance to capture the 71st running of the $750,000 Woodbine Oaks on Sunday at Woodbine. Ridden with confidence by John Velazquez, the unbeaten filly swept to the front approaching the home turn before drawing well clear of her rivals to seal an emphatic success.

The prestigious Canadian classic for three-year-old fillies once again produced a performance worthy of its rich history, with Luster stamping her authority in the 1 1/8-mile contest and strengthening her credentials for a possible bid in next month’s King’s Plate.
Kinzie Girl was quickest into stride and dictated the early pace, with Bold Time tracking the leader while the well-backed Luster settled comfortably on the outside under Velazquez. Dixie Law, Piper’s Gift, Red Guitar and Katie’s Grace followed through an opening quarter-mile in 23.54 seconds.
The field remained largely unchanged as Kinzie Girl led through a measured half-mile in 48.07 seconds, holding a narrow advantage over the patiently ridden Luster. Velazquez kept his mount relaxed before asking her to improve approaching the three-quarter mark, reached in 1:12.70.
The response was immediate. Luster moved smoothly to the front around the final bend and quickly established control of the race. With daylight opening behind her in the straight, Velazquez had the luxury of checking over his shoulder before easing his filly home.
Luster crossed the finish line 5½ lengths clear in 1:50.99, producing one of the most convincing victories in recent editions of the Woodbine Oaks. Dixie Law finished second, 1¾ lengths ahead of Bold Time in third, while Katie’s Grace completed the first four.
The victory gave Hall of Fame jockey John Velazquez back-to-back wins in the race after guiding No Time to success in 2025. It also marked a fourth Woodbine Oaks triumph for Hall of Fame trainer Josie Carroll, whose previous winners include Inglorious (2011), Curlin’s Voyage (2020) and Kin’s Concerto (2024).
Owned by Gainesway Stable and Andrew Rosen, Luster has now compiled an outstanding record of four wins and one placing from five starts. The daughter of Knicks Go, bred in Ontario by Ravi Sugrim and Joannie Dass, was purchased for $80,000 at the 2024 Keeneland September Yearling Sale.
She arrived at the Woodbine Oaks following her Grade 3 Selene Stakes success on June 27 and further enhanced her growing reputation with another polished display over an extended distance.
The Woodbine Oaks has long been regarded as an important stepping stone toward the King’s Plate, scheduled for August 15. Several fillies have completed the prestigious Oaks-King’s Plate double in recent years, underlining the significance of Sunday’s performance as attention now turns to Canada’s most celebrated horse race.
