All-weather racing takes centre stage at Lingfield Park Racecourse on Thursday, 5 March, with a competitive seven-race card staged on the Polytrack surface. The afternoon fixture features a mix of apprentice company, maidens and handicaps, with distances ranging from a sharp five furlongs to a stamina-testing mile and a quarter. With competitive field sizes and varied class levels, the meeting promises an engaging afternoon of flat action.

The card opens at 1:53pm with the Hands and Heels Apprentice Handicap Stakes over seven furlongs and one yard. This Class 6 contest carries £6,000 in prize money and features six runners. With apprentice riders taking the spotlight, the race offers an opportunity for emerging talent to showcase their skills in what could prove a tactically run contest around Lingfield’s turning track.

Race Two at 2:23pm is the Restricted Maiden Stakes over one mile and one yard. Eight runners line up for this Class 5 event worth £8,000. As a maiden contest, it provides an ideal platform for lightly raced and improving horses to break through, and the extended mile trip should test both speed and stamina on the all-weather surface.

The third race, scheduled for 2:53pm, is a five-furlong and six-yard Class 5 handicap with £7,100 on offer. With just five runners declared, the small field could make for a tactical sprint, where early pace and track positioning will be crucial in the dash to the line.

Race 4 at Lingfield Park Racecourse is the feature contest on Thursday’s card, the Make The Move To Midnite Handicap Stakes at 3:25pm. Run over five furlongs and six yards, the Class 4 sprint carries the highest prize fund of the afternoon at £9,500 and has attracted a competitive field of five runners. With proven course-and-distance performers lining up, this sharp all-weather dash promises to be one of the highlights of the meeting.

Fidelius, a five-year-old gelding trained by Robert Cowell for Mrs Susan Hadida, heads the weights on 9st 9lbs with a BHA rating of 84 and will be partnered by Tom Marquand. Close behind on ratings is The Thames Boatman, a six-year-old gelding from the Richard Hughes yard owned by Nigel Scandrett and Shane Buy, rated 83 and set to be ridden by Billy Loughnane off 9st 8lbs.

Toolatetonegotiate, a four-year-old filly trained and owned by Daisy Hitchins, carries 8st 13lbs and has a rating of 74 with Millie Wonnacott taking 5lbs off. Veteran campaigner Lequinto, a nine-year-old trained by Tony Carroll for Mark Wellbelove and Partner, runs off 8st 10lbs with a rating of 71 under William Carson, while Level Up, a seven-year-old from the David Evans stable owned by Mrs E Evans, completes the line-up carrying 8st 4lbs with Laura Coughlan claiming 3lbs.

Race Five at 4:00pm moves up in distance to one mile and two furlongs for a Class 6 handicap worth £6,000. Seven runners are declared for this middle-distance event, where stamina and race positioning are likely to play key roles as the field negotiates Lingfield’s sweeping bends.

The sixth race, due off at 4:33pm, returns to the mile trip with a Class 6 handicap offering £6,000 in prize money. Eight runners are set to go to post, making it one of the more competitive fields on the card. With several runners likely to be closely matched on ratings, this contest could develop into a tightly fought finish in the home straight.

The meeting concludes at 5:08pm with another mile-and-a-quarter Class 6 handicap. Five runners will line up for the £6,000 finale, rounding off the afternoon’s action. With stamina once again at a premium, the final race provides a fitting conclusion to the afternoon’s programme.

Overall, Lingfield’s Thursday fixture presents a balanced mix of sprints and middle-distance contests, offering opportunities for developing riders and progressive horses alike. The Polytrack surface should ensure consistent conditions throughout the afternoon, setting the stage for an entertaining day of flat racing in Surrey.
