A competitive seven-race programme at Lingfield Park Racecourse produced a varied evening of all-weather racing on Tuesday, 12 May, with notable performances across apprentice handicaps, novice contests and staying events. Riders Jack Callan and Robert Havlin both secured doubles during the meeting, while several progressive runners delivered strong performances throughout the card.
The opening Apprentice Handicap Stakes (Class 5) over three miles saw ARC ZOOSVE produce a determined staying effort under Jack Callan for trainer Neil King and owner Mr Iain Francis. The winner travelled steadily before asserting in the latter stages to record a winning time of 3m 38.80s. AN BRADAN FEASA stayed on well for second place, while POLLING DAY completed the top three after remaining competitive throughout the extended contest.
The Novice Stakes (Class 4) (GBB Race) over a mile featured a polished display from SAVVY DISKO, who continued progressive form for jockey Robert Havlin and trainer Simon Woods. Representing owner Mr Julian Hui, the winner showed a smooth turn of foot in the closing stages to stop the clock at 1m 39.58s. ALWAYS HAPPY finished second after keeping on in the straight, while YORK TOWER took third place in a promising novice event.
One of the standout performances on the card arrived in the Fillies’ Novice Stakes (Class 4) (GBB Race), where BRIGHT SUMMER impressed under Oisin Murphy for trainer Andrew Balding and owner Sheikh Juma Dalmook Al Maktoum. The filly travelled comfortably before quickening decisively to secure victory in 1m 25.28s. THURSDAY GIRL stayed on for second, while HATOUR filled third place as the race produced a strong finish among several lightly raced fillies.
Robert Havlin completed his double during the evening when SLACK BOB captured the Sky 415 Handicap Stakes (Class 6) for trainer Ed Dunlop and owner The Old Etonian Racing Syndicate II. The winner maintained a consistent rhythm throughout the contest before edging clear late to record 1m 26.04s. THESTRAL claimed second place after remaining prominent throughout, while ROCCOBEAR secured third in another closely fought handicap.
The Handicap Stakes (Class 4) later produced success for ZATSGOOD, ridden confidently by Billy Loughnane for trainer George Boughey. Running for Highclere Thoroughbred Racing – Zatsgood, the winner travelled strongly before finishing best to complete the race in 1m 36.93s. ZOFFANDIA finished second following a determined challenge, while SIGNCASTLE CITY stayed on for third place in a competitive middle-distance contest.
In the Fillies’ Handicap Stakes (Class 4), HANDLE WITH CARE delivered another notable result for jockey Marco Ghiani and trainer Marco Botti. Racing in the colours of owner Mr Paul Hunt, the filly showed good pace from the outset before holding off late challengers to score in 1m 24.77s. BRISK SYMPHONY finished second after making ground late on, while BAREFOOT BEACH completed the placings in third.
The concluding Handicap Stakes (Class 4) (GBBPLUS Race) saw YAA MIN provide Jack Callan with his second winner of the evening. Trained by Hayley Burton for The Wright Way Syndicate, the staying performer settled well before producing a sustained late effort to secure victory in 2m 34.56s. PENZANCE finished second after staying on in the final furlong, while EPICTETUS took third place as the meeting concluded with another competitive finish.
Lingfield Park Race Results 12 May featured doubles for Jack Callan and Robert Havlin, while BRIGHT SUMMER, YAA MIN, ARC ZOOSVE and ZATSGOOD delivered some of the most notable performances across the seven-race all-weather programme.
