Stumptown Returns as French Dynamite Leads a Powerful Munster National Field

Stumptown and French Dynamite headline the Limerick Munster National at Limerick Racecourse
By | 17 Oct 2026 | Mumbai

The Limerick Munster National will bring a strong field of 16 runners to Limerick Racecourse on Sunday, with defending champion French Dynamite returning to the €100,000 Grade 3 contest alongside last year’s winner Stumptown and several proven staying chasers. The 26th running of the BOYLE Sports JT McNamara Munster National will start at 4pm and will headline a weekend of National Hunt racing at the Irish venue.

The race will honour JT McNamara, the Croom jockey who recorded more than 600 point-to-point victories during his career and achieved multiple successes at the Cheltenham and Punchestown Festivals. The contest will also draw on a distinguished history that includes the celebrated Tiger Roll among its previous winners.

French Dynamite Leads the Limerick Munster National Challenge

Trainer Eric McNamara will aim to extend his remarkable record in the race after securing victories in the past two renewals. French Dynamite will return to defend his crown after beating stable companion Weveallbeencaught by a length 12 months ago. Both horses will line up again, while Look To The West will complete the challenge from the same Rathkeale yard.

The three runners will give McNamara a strong representation in the staying chase as he targets a third consecutive success. French Dynamite will face a competitive field, with several rivals bringing valuable experience over fences and form in major races.

Anyway will enter the contest for trainer Ken Budds, based near Tallow, after winning over fences at Tramore in August. Bossofthebrownies will also attract attention for Mouse Morris, who won the inaugural running of the Munster National in 2001 with Foxchapel King.

The presence of these runners will add depth to a race that will test stamina, jumping ability and consistency over the demanding staying distance.

Stumptown Returns After Czech Republic Success

Stumptown will provide another major talking point as he returns to action for County Meath trainer Gavin Cromwell. The previous year’s winner will arrive following his success in the Velka Pardubicka in the Czech Republic, where he added another notable achievement to his staying-chase record.

His return will add further interest to the Limerick contest, particularly after his ability to produce a strong performance following a lengthy break. The topweight will face a different challenge against a field containing previous course-and-distance performers and runners with recent form over fences.

Cromwell’s latest success in the Czech Republic with Final Orders will also bring attention to his stable’s recent international achievements. Stumptown’s presence will ensure that the defending champion French Dynamite will not be the only previous winner attracting interest.

JP McManus Fields Two Runners

Owner JP McManus will have two representatives as he seeks another victory in the race, having last claimed the prize with Spider Web in 2018. Uhavemeinstitches will lead his challenge after winning the Grade 3 Hugh McMahon Memorial Chase over the same course and distance in March.

The six-year-old mare, trained by James Motherway, will also bring a previous Grade 2 placing at Limerick from the Christmas meeting. A Wave Of The Sea, trained by Shane Broderick, will join her in carrying the owner’s familiar green and gold colours.

Their course experience will provide useful credentials in a race where familiarity with the track and the demands of a three-mile chase will be important.

Kerry National Form Offers Another Guide

The Guinness Kerry National at Listowel will provide another form reference ahead of the Limerick meeting. Each of the previous three Munster National winners had contested the Kerry National earlier in the season, finishing third, ninth and being pulled up.

Kings Hill, trained by Paul Gilligan in Athenry, and Meetandgreet, from Oliver McKiernan’s stable, will fit that pattern this year. French Dynamite and Look To The West will also enter the contest with Kerry National experience.

While the recent trend will offer an interesting angle, the different finishing positions will underline the need to consider each horse’s wider form. Stamina, jumping consistency and the ability to handle the demands of the course will all play important roles in Sunday’s outcome.

Limerick Welcomes Racing Fans for Munster National Weekend

Limerick Racecourse Interim Manager Peter English will welcome trainers, jockeys, owners and racing fans for the weekend’s programme. The meeting will also include a charitable initiative, with 16 charities set to benefit from a sweepstake generously provided by JP McManus.

English will acknowledge the contribution of title sponsor BOYLE Sports and local businesses supporting races throughout the weekend. Their backing will help bring the two-day meeting together, with Sunday’s Grade 3 chase serving as its principal attraction.

The Limerick Munster National will bring together established performers and several compelling contenders, with French Dynamite seeking to defend his title and Stumptown returning after his international success. Eric McNamara will also have the opportunity to extend his recent winning record, while the presence of Anyway, Bossofthebrownies and Uhavemeinstitches will add further depth to the contest.

The Limerick Munster National will headline Sunday’s meeting at Limerick Racecourse, with French Dynamite returning after his previous victory and Stumptown adding interest following his Czech Republic success. Eric McNamara will target another win, while a strong group of staying chasers will compete in the €100,000 Grade 3 contest.
