Brownstown Stakes Leads Thursday’s Leopardstown Meeting

Among Ireland’s most prestigious Flat racing venues, Leopardstown Racecourse will host a competitive seven-race evening fixture on Thursday, 9 July. The meeting will begin at 4:50 PM and conclude at 8:13 PM, featuring a maiden, four handicaps, a Group 3 feature and a qualified riders’ contest. With more than €265,000 in total prize money on offer, the programme will provide a varied evening of racing across distances ranging from seven furlongs to nearly two miles.

The evening will get underway with the Fillies Maiden at 4:50 PM. Run over 7f 50yds for €22,000, the opening contest will feature A Girl Named Sioux, Arizonaneargalway, Bellesque, Carafinn, Churchill Bond and Fine Line. The race will offer several lightly raced fillies an opportunity to make a positive impression.

Next on the programme comes the Handicap at 5:25 PM. The 7f 50yds contest will carry €25,000 in prize money, with Invincible Will, Time Bender, Zenford, Dawn Romance, Mighty Danu and Dark Leader expected to line up. A competitive field will ensure another closely contested race early in the evening.

Centre stage will then belong to the Brownstown Stakes (Group 3) at 5:55 PM. Run over 7f 50yds for €70,000, the feature contest is expected to include Bella Isabella, Chantez, Duckadilly, Fingerpaint, Nancy J and Phenomenal Filly. The Group 3 event will represent the highest level of competition on the card.

The competitive action will continue with the Harry Meighan Memorial Handicap at 6:28 PM. Staged over 1 mile for €20,000, the race is expected to feature Glyndwr, Ocean Manifest, Bill Silvers, Dark Viper, Heliogabalus and Dark Summit. The contest will add further depth to an already balanced programme.

Attention will then shift to the evening’s richest contest, the Nasrullah Handicap, at 7:03 PM. The 1m 1f handicap offers €100,000 in prize money and is expected to feature Diego El Queso, Lord Massusus, Cloud Seeker, Retracement, Slieve Binnian and Playin Cool. The valuable prize fund will make this one of the standout races of the meeting.

The penultimate contest will arrive in the form of the Mervue Equine Handicap at 7:38 PM. Run over 1m 1f for €12,000, the field is expected to include Burford Beauty, Mullacurry Maid, William F Browne, Anchors Away, Max Meridius and Medieval Night. The race will continue the competitive handicap action before the finale.

Bringing the meeting to its conclusion will be the Hurling For Cancer Research (Q.R.) Race at 8:13 PM. The 1m 7f staying contest will carry €16,000 in prize money, with Delta, The Mediator, Sirius, Catalani, Friary Road and Murat expected to line up. The qualified riders’ event will complete the seven-race programme.

Leopardstown’s Thursday fixture will combine promising young runners, experienced handicappers and Pattern-class performers across a well-balanced evening schedule. The Brownstown Stakes (Group 3) will headline the programme, while the €100,000 Nasrullah Handicap will stand as the richest contest of the meeting. The varied race distances will provide different tests for runners and contribute to another competitive evening at one of Ireland’s leading racecourses.
