The curtain came down on Friday’s programme with Race 7, THE AWESOME ONE HANDICAP DIV II, a Class III contest for horses rated 41–66 (rated 21–46 eligible) over 1200 metres, run at 4:30 PM on 30 January 2026, and it was Jimmy Bee who ensured a fitting finale. In what neatly completed the Kolkata race result 30 January, Jimmy Bee (J: Vishal N Bunde) produced a polished sprinting display for trainer Sabeel Shariff, carrying the colours of Mr Rafiullah A Khan to cap the day on a winning note.
Settled just off the pace through the early exchanges, Jimmy Bee travelled smoothly as the field bunched on the turn. Vishal N Bunde waited for the right moment before asking his mount to lengthen, and the response was immediate. Once balanced in the straight, Jimmy Bee quickened smartly, asserting inside the final furlong to settle matters decisively in the closing strides.
The runner-up honours went to Cat Whiskers (J: R Vaibhav, T: Aashay Doctor), who kept on gamely after racing in touch, while Tycoonist (J: Md Sameer, T: Vikash Jaiswal) stayed on to claim third, completing the placings behind the winner.
Earlier on the card, the day had opened with Power Racer (J: Gaurav Singh, T: B Rajender Reddy) setting the tone in The Sniper Handicap over 1600 metres, winning for owner Mr B Rajender Reddy ahead of Dancing Queen and Toussaint. Staying prowess came to the fore in The Sans Pareil Handicap, where Garth (J: P. Trevor) landed the 2400-metre contest for trainer Aashay Doctor and owners M/s Sarainaga Racing Pvt Ltd, with Cascade and Divine Gift filling the minor places.
Class took centre stage in the AB & M Indian Champagne Stakes (Gr III) as Saiko (J: P. Trevor, T: Vijay Singh) delivered a commanding performance over 1400 metres for Mr Vikram Bachhawat & others of Bachhawat Farms Pvt Ltd, finishing ahead of Admiringly and Dreamflight. The prestigious Governor’s Cup then saw Casteel (J: A A Vikrant, T: Satish Narredu) score over 1600 metres for M/s Blazing Saddles (PF) & others, holding off King Louis and Raffaello in a competitive renewal.
Speed again ruled in The Castlebridge Handicap, where Pantazi (J: P. Trevor, T: Aashay Doctor) struck over 1200 metres for Mrs Menaka Gupta & others of Deciding Factor LLP / Hyperion Bloodstock, ahead of Aperol and Romping Home, before Oishika (J: P. Trevor, T: Shyam S Habbu) claimed The Awesome One Handicap Div I at 4:00 PM for Mr Vikram Bachhawat (Bachhawat Farms Pvt Ltd), with Chililady and Impressive Annie chasing home.
With Jimmy Bee’s victory bringing down the curtain on the sixth day of the Winter Meeting, the Kolkata spotlight now shifts forward, as connections and racegoers alike look ahead to the next card and the fresh narratives it is sure to deliver.
