A Class II event for horses rated 61–86 (41–66 eligible) over a testing 2400 metres, the 5:00 PM staying feature saw STAR STUDDED produce a determined performance under Vishal N Bunde to score in 2:35.371. STAR STUDDED was always travelling within reach of the leaders, settling into a smooth rhythm as the field negotiated the backstretch. Vishal N Bunde bided his time before gradually increasing the tempo approaching the final bend. Once angled into the straight, the response was decisive. Asked for an effort inside the final 300 metres, STAR STUDDED lengthened stride and edged clear close home to seal the contest with grit and stamina.
HEART, ridden by P. Trevor for trainer Deepesh Narredu, fought hard all the way to the line and was beaten by a narrow margin in 2:35.518 after threatening inside the final furlong. MULTIVERSE, partnered by Gaurav Singh for B Rajender Reddy, stayed on steadily to claim third in 2:36.441, rounding off a competitive staying handicap.
Earlier in the day, the card had unfolded with equal intensity. The afternoon commenced at 2:00 PM with The Pentire Handicap over 1600 metres, where VERRAZZANO delivered for jockey A. A. Vikrant and trainer Ritesh E. K, scoring for owners Mrs Radhika Narredu & Mr Teja Gollapudi. ROYAL MEMBER (R S Bhati/Javed Khan) and MOGAMBO (M. S. Deora/Shafiq Khan) filled the minor placings.
The sprinting division took centre stage in The Aashna Handicap Div I at 2:30 PM, as CASHABLE gave P. Trevor and trainer Ritesh E. K another success, carrying the colours of Mr Koushik Dutta. MARCOLINI (Imran Chisty/B Mahesh) finished second, with SIR WINSTON (Sah Farid Ansari/Vijay Singh) third. Half an hour later in Division II, IMMORTAL BEAUTY completed a notable double for Trevor and Ritesh E. K, again for owner Mr Koushik Dutta, ahead of HONEY CAKE (R S Bhati/Shyam S Habbu) and MEMPHIS (M S Deora/Javed Khan).
The feature of the afternoon, The Calcutta Million (2025–26) (Grade III) over a mile at 3:30 PM, produced a quality performance from ADMIRINGLY. Ridden by P. Trevor and trained by Aashay Doctor, the winner triumphed for an expansive ownership group headed by Mrs Snigdha Kapoor, Mrs Ruchi Kedia and associates. SAIKO (Sah Farid Ansari/Vijay Singh) chased home in second, while SILVER DREAM (M S Deora/Vijay Singh) claimed third.
At 4:00 PM, BOOSTER SHOT struck in The Caring Minds Cup under Nikhil Naidu for trainer Ritesh E. K, once again providing Mr Koushik Dutta with winner’s honours. MULTI SUCCESS (Vishal N Bunde/Rajesh Narredu) and CIGAR GALAXY (P. Trevor/Aashay Doctor) completed the frame. The penultimate race, The Metropolitan over 1200 metres, saw PANTAZI power home for P. Trevor and Aashay Doctor, representing a large partnership of owners including Mrs Menaka Gupta and Mr Salomone N Benveniste among others. RAFFAELLO (M S Deora/Aashay Doctor) finished second, with BLACK EAGLE (Vishwa V/B Rajender Reddy) in third.
With seven races decided and the sun dipping beyond the grandstands, the SPRING MEETING’s second day concluded on a high note, setting the stage for more competitive action in the weeks ahead at the historic Kolkata course.
