The opening race of the day at the Royal Calcutta Turf Club, Race 1 – The Agostine Handicap (Class V, Horses rated 1-26) over 1100 metres, set the tone for the Kolkata race result 9 January. At 1:00 PM, Memphis (J: M S Deora) delivered an authoritative performance for trainer Javed Khan, representing owners Mr Anand Chopra rep M/s Speedex Livestock Pvt Ltd, Mr Sanjay Kumar Singhi, Mr Pankaj Goenka, and Mr Gaurav Chokhany, stopping the clock at a sharp 1:06.730 to claim victory.

From the gates, Memphis broke cleanly and settled in a stalking position behind the early leaders. With a well-timed turn for home, Deora found a gap along the rail, and Memphis accelerated decisively in the final 200 metres, asserting dominance and leaving rivals scrambling to keep pace. The combination of patience and timing proved decisive in a fast-paced contest.

The runner-up spoils went to Elusive Ranger (J: Chethan Gowda, T: Neil Darashah), who finished strongly in 1:06.849, just a fraction behind the winner. Diamond Gold (J: P Sai Kumar, T: Rutherford Alford) produced a late surge to secure third place in 1:06.952, rounding out a tightly contested top three.

With the first race concluded, eyes now turn to The Acrider Handicap at 1:30 PM, a contest expected to challenge both speed and stamina over a competitive mid-distance field.
