Race 5 of the Calcutta Races, Winter Meeting – Second Day, delivered a compelling staying contest as Black Diamond landed The Malpensa Cup, a Class IV event for horses rated 21–46 (1–26 eligible), over 2400 metres at 3:00 PM on Friday, 9 January 2026. In a performance that stood out on the Kolkata race result 9 January card, Black Diamond, ridden by Suraj Narredu and trained by Deepesh Narredu, stayed on resolutely to score for Dr Ram H Shroff & Mr Raj H Shroff rep M/s Stride Livestock Pvt Ltd, Mr Chetan Shantilal Shah, Mr Ashok Ranpise & Mr S Raghu, clocking 2:35.521.

Settled into a handy position through the early and middle stages, Black Diamond was produced with perfect timing as the field swung for home. Suraj Narredu kept the filly balanced and responding under pressure, and once asked to quicken, the eventual winner dug deep to assert a narrow but decisive advantage in the final strides of the long Calcutta straight.

Garth ran a gallant race to finish second in 2:35.635, with Mukesh Kumar aboard for trainer Aashay Doctor, keeping the winner honest right to the line. Close behind, Sanaya completed the frame in 2:35.896, with R Vaibhav partnering the Bharath Singh-trained runner, ensuring the podium finishers were separated by less than half a second.

With The Malpensa Cup concluded, attention now turns swiftly to the next race, The Violin Handicap Division I at 3:30 PM, as the Winter Meeting action continues to build at the Royal Calcutta Turf Club.
