The opening act of the CALCUTTA RACES, SPRING MEETING saw Race No. 1, The Contralto Handicap, a Class V contest for horses rated 1–26 over 1100 metres, set the tone at 2:00 PM on Saturday, 7 February 2026, with Godsend Divine delivering a polished performance to land the honours. In what quickly became a talking point among punters tracking the Kolkata race result 7 February, the Sah Farid Ansari-ridden winner showed speed and control to score smartly for trainer Rutherford Alford and owners Mrs G Alford, Mr Benny Selwyn, Mr Devesh Poddar, Mr Dinesh Choumal, Mr Kevin Joseph Manuel, Mr Pawan Choumal, Mr Peeyush Choumal & Mr Rutherford Alford.
Breaking alertly from the gates, Godsend Divine was soon into a comfortable rhythm, travelling sweetly just off the pace as the field fanned out down the straight. Ansari timed his move with assurance, asking his mount to quicken inside the final furlong, and the response was immediate. The mare surged clear late, asserting his authority and keeping his rivals at bay with a decisive burst of speed.
Stablemate A Wink Annda Smile finished a creditable second under Md Azharuddin, also trained by Rutherford Alford, after sticking on resolutely once challenged. Diamond Gold, with M S Deora in the saddle and again representing the Alford yard, completed the trifecta, staying on steadily to secure third as the line approached.
With the first result in the books, attention now turns swiftly to the next contest on the card, The Philippines Cup, scheduled for 2:30 PM, as the Spring Meeting at Kolkata continues to gather momentum.
