Contessina Strikes Smartly in The Obrigado Handicap at Calcutta

The third race of the afternoon, The Obrigado Handicap, a Class IV contest for horses rated 21–46 (1–26 eligible) over 1200 metres, was run at 03:30 PM on Friday, 6th March, 2026, during the Summer Meeting – Second Day at the Royal Calcutta Turf Club. Contessina, ridden with assurance by Darshan N and trained by Satish Narredu, produced a determined finishing effort to secure the victory for owners Dr Ram H Shroff & Mr Raj Shroff rep. M/s Stride Livestock Pvt Ltd, Mr Ashok Ranpise, Mr Chetan Shantilal Shah, and M/s So Blest Trading Co Pvt Ltd.

The Kolkata race result 6 March card continued to deliver competitive racing, and this sprint handicap proved no exception as Contessina showed a sharp turn of foot when it mattered most. Breaking alertly from the gates, the field quickly settled into a brisk early rhythm over the short six-furlong trip. As the runners approached the straight, several contenders loomed with winning chances, but Darshan N kept Contessina well balanced before asking for the final effort. Responding gamely, the Narredu-trained runner accelerated smartly in the closing stages, asserting superiority inside the final furlong to claim the prize with authority.

Ananta Sukha, ridden by Sah Farid Ansari and trained by Vijay Singh, chased the winner home to finish second after a determined stretch run. Honey Cake, under Abhishek Mhatre for trainer Shyam S Habbu, stayed on steadily to secure third place as the minor placings were settled in the concluding strides.

With this race concluded, attention now shifts to the next contest, The Averoff Cup, scheduled to be run at 04:00 PM, where another competitive field is expected to keep the momentum going on an engaging afternoon of racing in Kolkata.
