The second race on the card at Calcutta Racecourse during the Calcutta Races Summer Meeting – First Day on Thursday, 5th March, 2026 featured The Toroloco Handicap, a Class III contest for horses rated 41–66, with those rated 21–46 also eligible, run over a sharp 1100 metres at 03:00 PM. The sprint produced an authoritative winner as Superlative surged to the front under jockey Darshan N, handing trainer Shafiq Khan a well-deserved success for owners Mr Mohammed Shakeel, Mr Rustom E Daroga & Mr Shafiq Khan.
The race unfolded at a lively tempo from the gates, with several runners eager to secure forward positions in the short-distance dash. Darshan N positioned Superlative prominently from the outset, conserving enough energy for the decisive run. As the field straightened for home, the Shafiq Khan trainee quickened impressively, asserting clear control in the final furlong and holding the advantage with authority to the winning post.
Lavish Girl, ridden by Sah Farid Ansari and trained by Vijay Singh, chased the winner home to secure second place after staying on steadily in the closing stages. Chililady, representing trainer Shafiq Khan and partnered by M S Deora, completed the placings in third after battling on gamely in the final stretch.
With the Toroloco Handicap concluded, attention at the Calcutta Racecourse now shifts quickly to the next event on the programme, The Prince Blossom Cup, scheduled for 03:30 PM, as the opening day of the summer meeting continues to gather momentum.
