Race number two at the CALCUTTA RACES, WINTER MEETING (Fourth Day) on Saturday, 17th January, 2026, saw VICTORIA CROSS land The Bengal Area Cup, a Class III contest for horses rated 41–66 (21–46 eligible), run over 1100 metres at 2:00 PM. In a performance that will feature prominently in the Kolkata race result 17 January wrap, Victoria Cross delivered a crisp sprinting display under Suraj Narredu, clocking 1:05.190 for trainer Neil Darashah and owner Ms Ameeta Mehra.

Breaking alertly, Victoria Cross was soon positioned to strike, travelling smoothly as the early pace unfolded. Suraj Narredu judged the fractions well, allowing the colt to settle before asking for an effort approaching the final furlong. Once switched into clear running, Victoria Cross responded decisively, quickening away to assert control and seal the verdict with authority inside the last 100 metres.

The runner-up honours went to Resplendence (J: Vinay Jaiswal, T: Rajesh Narredu), who stayed on gamely after being under pressure early, while Dona Sienna (J: P. Trevor, T: Bharath Singh) finished on steadily to claim third after racing prominently for much of the journey.

With this sprint concluded, attention now turns swiftly to the Army Service Corps (ASC) Cup, scheduled for 2:30 PM, as the Kolkata card continues to build towards its key afternoon highlights.
