Race Number 6 at the Calcutta Races Winter Meeting, Fourth Day, delivered a competitive sprint as Surprise Fantasy landed The Lt Gen Jameel Mahmood Memorial Cup Division I, a Class IV contest (rated 21–46; 1–26 eligible) over 1200 metres, run at 4:00 PM on Saturday, 17th January 2026. Adding to the day’s narrative of sharp finishes reflected in the Kolkata race result 17 January, Surprise Fantasy produced a decisive performance under Suraj Narredu for trainer Neil Darashah. Racing in the colours of Mr Enrico Piperno, Mr Naresh Kumar Agarwal, Mr Vivek Choudhary, Mr Navin Saraf, Mr Anil Sharma, Mr Asraf Ali Shaikh & Mr Mridul Krishen Sharma, the winner showed authority when it mattered most.
Settled comfortably through the early exchanges, Surprise Fantasy travelled sweetly as the pace lifted approaching the bend. Narredu timed his challenge to perfection, asking the filly to quicken inside the final furlong, where Surprise Fantasy responded gamely to assert control and pull clear in the closing stages, sealing the verdict with confidence.
Cashmere Silk (J: Vishal N. Bunde, T: Sabeel Shariff) chased bravely to finish second after being prominently placed throughout, while Marcolini (J: R. Vaibhav, T: B. Mahesh) stayed on resolutely to claim third, keeping the pressure on the leaders without quite matching the winner’s finishing burst.
With Division I concluded, attention now turns swiftly to The Lt Gen Jameel Mahmood Memorial Cup Division II, scheduled for 4:30 PM, as the Winter Meeting continues to build toward its marquee moments at the Calcutta Racecourse.
