Leading New Zealand thoroughbred nursery Cambridge Stud will continue its long association with the National Yearling Sale, with the stud committing to sell 100 percent of its yearling stock at the Karaka 2027 National Yearling Sale at the Karaka Sales Centre. The 101st National Yearling Sale will take place at the Karaka Sales Centre from 24 to 28 January 2027.

The upcoming edition will mark the beginning of the next century of yearling sales in New Zealand following the milestone 100th National Yearling Sale. Cambridge Stud will once again bring its complete yearling draft to Karaka, continuing a relationship with the event that will stretch back almost five decades.

Cambridge Stud will first appear at the National Yearling Sale in 1978 at Trentham under the leadership of Sir Patrick Hogan. The stud will present the inaugural crop of Sir Tristram at that sale, marking the beginning of a long association with one of New Zealand’s most important yearling events.

Karaka 2027 National Yearling Sale Will Feature Cambridge Stud’s Full Draft

Almost 50 years after its first appearance, Cambridge Stud will continue its presence at the National Yearling Sale under Stud Principals Sir Brendan and Lady Jo Lindsay. Their leadership will carry forward the traditions and reputation built by the stud over several generations.

The decision to offer 100 percent of its yearlings at Karaka will add further depth to the 2027 catalogue. Cambridge Stud will bring its complete draft rather than selecting only part of its yearling stock, giving buyers the opportunity to assess the full group from one of New Zealand’s established thoroughbred nurseries.

The commitment will also strengthen the connection between the history of the National Yearling Sale and its future. From its first appearance at Trentham in 1978 to the upcoming 101st edition at Karaka, Cambridge Stud will have maintained a close relationship with the event and the wider New Zealand yearling industry.

NZB Managing Director Andrew Seabrook will welcome the continued support from Cambridge Stud as preparations for the 2027 sale progress. The selection process will already be underway, with the NZB team inspecting almost 2,000 yearlings across the country.

The inspection programme will help shape the final catalogue for the January sale, while breeders and vendors will prepare their yearlings for presentation at Karaka. The involvement of established nurseries such as Cambridge Stud will add further depth to the group of yearlings expected to be offered.

The upcoming sale will also carry added significance as the National Yearling Sale moves beyond its centenary milestone. The 101st edition will begin the next century of the event and will continue its role as an important part of the New Zealand thoroughbred industry.

Cambridge Stud’s history at the sale will provide an important link with that past. Its first appearance will have taken place nearly five decades earlier, while the stud will now return with its entire yearling draft as the National Yearling Sale enters a new chapter.

The association with Sir Tristram will remain a notable part of Cambridge Stud’s history at the event. His inaugural crop will be presented by the stud at the 1978 sale, and Cambridge Stud will continue to build its standing through successive generations of thoroughbreds.

As preparations for the 2027 sale continue, attention will turn towards the yearlings selected for the final catalogue. With NZB inspecting almost 2,000 yearlings across the country, the selection process will play an important role in shaping the overall offering at Karaka.

Cambridge Stud’s decision to sell its complete yearling stock will provide another important feature for the upcoming edition. The full-draft commitment will demonstrate the stud’s continued involvement with the National Yearling Sale and its place within the history of the event.

The 2027 edition will therefore combine an important milestone for the sale with another chapter in Cambridge Stud’s long association with Karaka. With the complete Cambridge Stud draft confirmed, preparations will continue for the 101st National Yearling Sale from 24 to 28 January 2027.

Karaka 2027 National Yearling Sale will feature Cambridge Stud’s complete yearling draft as the 101st edition begins the next century of New Zealand’s major yearling sale.
