Ka Ying Rising delivered a sensational performance to win the prestigious HK$22 million Group 1 Chairman’s Sprint Prize (1200m) at Sha Tin Racecourse on FWD Champions Day today, further cementing his status among the elite sprinters of the world. Trained by David Hayes and ridden to perfection by Zac Purton, Ka Ying Rising dazzled with his effortless display, leaving his rivals trailing behind.

Sunday’s (27 April) FWD Champions Day card features three Group 1 races—the Chairman’s Sprint Prize, the HK$24 million FWD Champions Mile (1600m), and the HK$28 million FWD QEII Cup (2000m)—headlining a blockbuster 10-race program. The day kicked off at 12:45 pm with the FWD Insurance ACT Private Handicap (1800m), but it was Ka Ying Rising who truly stole the show later in the afternoon.

After a textbook break from the gates, Purton settled Ka Ying Rising into a perfect stalking position. From there, it was a demonstration of pure class. “What more can you say?” an elated Purton remarked post-race. “Every time you come out here, he produces something special. He’s getting better and better.” Despite a long season, Ka Ying Rising once again showcased his brilliance, dismissing a strong international field without even needing to change legs during the race.

Purton also praised the Japanese challengers, acknowledging their willingness to travel and compete globally, but noted, “they were only second fiddle against him today.” The win marks a fitting end to a sensational season for Ka Ying Rising, who now heads for a well-earned break before aiming for even bigger targets ahead.

Runner-up SATONO REVE, ridden by Joao Moreira, delivered a brave effort. “That was a brilliant run,” Moreira said. “We just bumped into probably the best sprinter in the world today.” HELIOS EXPRESS, piloted by Hugh Bowman, finished third, and Bowman described the effort as the horse’s “best run of the preparation.”

Despite a track with a little give, which dulled the final times, Ka Ying Rising’s performance was clearly a cut above the rest. With the Chairman’s Sprint Prize secured in emphatic style, attention now turns to where this rising sprint star will next showcase his brilliance.
