The opening contest of the Mysore (Monsoon) Races 2025, Meeting 3rd Day on Thursday, 11 September, delivered a lively start as Race 1 – The Shivakashi Plate (Class V, Horses Rated 00 to 25, 1200m, 2:00 PM) – went the way of seasoned campaigner Just Blues (J: Arvind Kumar N., T: Surender G.T.). Racing in the silks of Mr K V Sridhara, the seven-year-old chestnut gelding showed both resilience and sharpness to complete the trip in 1:12.111, securing a much-deserved win.
Breaking smartly from the gates, Just Blues settled behind the early pacesetters before producing a decisive move in the home stretch. With a well-timed ride from Arvind Kumar N., the winner surged through the final furlong, brushing aside the late challenges and ensuring trainer Surender G.T. opened his day on a high. The victory was sealed with authority as the gelding extended a length clear by the post, much to the delight of connections.
The runner-up honours went to Eye The Mind (J: S. Imran, T: J. Ganesh), who battled gamely before finishing a shade behind in 1:12.537. Close on his heels was Fashionista (J: Pavan, T: P. Ruban), who clocked 1:12.696 to secure third after a spirited finish, confirming a tightly contested frame with narrow margins separating the top trio.
With The Shivakashi Plate concluded, attention now shifts towards the day’s later contests, including the more competitive handicaps and the feature race that promises to add further drama to the Mysore monsoon season.
