Moonlight Romance Plate sees strong finish from Rajendra Singh’s ward
The fourth day of the Bangalore Summer Meeting 2025 opened in fine fashion on May 25 with the Moonlight Romance Plate, a 1400-meter handicap contest for horses rated 00 to 25. Run over a well-maintained track with an average penetrometer reading of 4.0 cm, the conditions were ideal for an exciting start to an eight-race card at the Bangalore Turf Club.
Joyful Spirit, trained by M. Rajendra Singh and ridden with calculated precision by K. Sai Kiran, emerged victorious in the opening event, stopping the clock at 1:28.76. The three-year-old filly showed early speed and maintained her composure down the stretch, eventually drawing clear of her rivals to seal a comfortable win.
The runner-up honours went to Sacred Creator, who put in a spirited run under jockey Ramswarup and the tutelage of trainer Narayana Gowda V, finishing just over a length and a half behind in 1:29.99. Despite a late surge, the gelding couldn’t match the finishing kick of the winner but was commendable in defeat.
Chinky Pinky, another runner from the Rajendra Singh yard, secured third place with Aleemuddin aboard. The filly crossed the line in 1:30.40, rounding off a strong showing for the stable in the opener.
The result reflects a well-judged tactical ride by Sai Kiran and a training double on the day’s very first race for Rajendra Singh, setting the tone for what promises to be a competitive summer season.
Up next on the card is the Ministerial Plate, a high-stakes sprint for three-year-olds only. With a total prize purse of Rs.11,00,000—half of which goes to the winner—it’s one to watch. Stay tuned for live updates and full post-race reports.
