Two races before trainer Eoin Harty aims high with Poster on the sport’s grandest stage, his attention turns to a quieter but no less meaningful assignment in Saturday’s Inside Information Stakes, where the accomplished filly Verity takes her place among an accomplished field at Gulfstream Park.

The seven-furlong contest for older fillies and mares has long been a proving ground for speed and substance, and this year’s renewal carries added intrigue for Harty, who knows the family well. Verity, a four-year-old bred to thrive under pressure, arrives with a record that speaks of consistency and resilience, qualities that tend to matter most in races of this nature.

The Inside Information Stakes forms part of a deep supporting programme on Pegasus World Cup day, a card that stretches across 13 races and draws together established names and emerging performers alike. For Verity, it represents both a test of class and a chance to underline her return to top-level competition.

Breaking from the outside draw under Vincent Cheminaud, Verity will be asked to use her composure early. The race is named after one of Gulfstream’s most celebrated mares, and its history is rich with performers who combined tactical speed with the ability to finish strongly.

Verity’s pedigree offers plenty of encouragement. She descends from champion bloodlines and is out of a mare who herself was a stakes winner, also prepared by Harty. That familiarity has shaped the trainer’s confidence in his charge.

“I trained her mother, and she was very classy,” Harty reflected. “But this filly has an exceptional mind. Nothing seems to unsettle her.”

That mental strength has been evident throughout her brief career. Verity has finished first or second in five of her six starts, including a notable victory over this same distance at Keeneland last spring. Her momentum was briefly interrupted later in the year, but her return to the track in late November suggested she had lost none of her ability, finishing a close second against older rivals in a sharp sprint.

Saturday’s race represents her second outing since that setback, a stage where improvement often comes naturally. Harty believes she has come on for the run, both physically and mentally, and expects her to be competitive against a field packed with experience.

The opposition in the Inside Information Stakes is deep and varied. Several runners arrive with graded form over different distances, while others bring proven Gulfstream credentials. Among them is a former championship runner-up returning to her preferred surface, as well as a trio from a local yard that has enjoyed consistent success with fillies and mares in these conditions.

Also lining up are recent winners from mile events, proven performers at seven furlongs, and seasoned campaigners who have contested top-level races across the country. It is a field that promises pace, pressure, and little margin for error.

Beyond this race, the Pegasus programme builds steadily toward its headline events. The undercard features a sequence of graded contests that showcase depth across divisions, from older horses stretching out around a mile to turf specialists tackling testing distances. Each race feeds into the broader narrative of the day, offering clues to form and future targets as the season unfolds.

For Harty, however, the focus remains firmly on Verity and the task immediately at hand. Success in the Inside Information Stakes would not only mark a significant achievement in its own right but also reaffirm the filly’s standing among her peers.

“She’s never run a bad race,” Harty said. “She’s a very classy mare.”

On a day defined by scale and spectacle, Verity’s appearance serves as a reminder that some of racing’s most compelling stories are found just beneath the main headline.
