A remarkable month of trade across Australia’s breeding stock landscape has closed with the Great Southern Weanling Sale delivering a record-breaking finale, bringing the curtain down on what has officially been the strongest Inglis Weanling Sales Series to date.
Inglis Weanling Sales Series 2026 results.
From Sydney to Melbourne, figures have surged across every key metric, underlining sustained demand and confidence in the quality of young stock presented throughout the series.
The combined gross from the Australian Weanling Sale in Sydney and the Great Southern Weanling Sale in Melbourne reached $34,984,000, marking a 19 per cent rise on last year’s previous record of $29,471,150.
The Great Southern fixture alone produced a standout performance, generating $15,289,500 in turnover — a leap of $4.2 million, or 51 per cent, compared to last year, and setting a new benchmark for the sale.
Across the board, averages and medians also climbed to fresh highs, with the average price reaching $51,829 and the median settling at $25,000, reflecting increases of 16 per cent and 14 per cent respectively.
In total, 55 weanlings sold for $100,000 or more during the Great Southern session, almost doubling last year’s figure of 27. That brought the overall number of six-figure weanlings across the entire series to 124, highlighting the depth of demand at the upper end of the market.
At the top of the table, an Anamoe x Femme Fireball filly from Three Bridges Thoroughbreds set the tone for the week, selling to Yulong for $825,000 — equalling the record for a single lot at the Great Southern Weanling Sale and becoming the highest-priced weanling sold in Australia this year.
The result was greeted with emotion and disbelief from connections. Three Bridges’ Toby Liston described the moment as the fulfilment of a long-held ambition.
“To get these results is what you dream of,” Liston said.
“We thought we had the right product, we brought her to Inglis and she shone.
“You get nervous when you’ve got such a quality animal and obviously there were multiple bidders up to $600,000 and $700,000, everybody wanted her which is marvellous.”
The filly’s co-breeder Peter Murray echoed the sense of occasion, reflecting on the intensity of the bidding environment and the atmosphere in the ring.
“It was amazing, really. You get caught up in the moment and you don’t know which way the bids are coming because they’re coming from online, from the other end of the room,” Murray said.
“The auctioneer was fantastic, it was great theatre.”
Another highlight came with the Anamoe x Witches colt from Burnewang North, which realised $480,000 when secured by a partnership involving Grenville Stud, SP Bloodstock and Suman Hedge.
SP Bloodstock’s Stefan Pardi was full of praise for the colt, describing him as one of the most complete young horses he had seen this year.
“He’s all class, a well-bodied colt, beautiful head,” Pardi said, adding that plans were already being considered for a future appearance at a major yearling showcase.
Burnewang North enjoyed a landmark result across the board, finishing as leading vendor after grossing $2,387,000 from the sale of all 17 weanlings offered, at an average of $140,412.
Emma Todd credited both the horses and the team effort behind the scenes, highlighting the extraordinary preparation work that went into presenting the draft.
“We’ve done at least 1800 individual parades,” she said.
“To have handled that the way they did is just a credit to the type of horse that they are.”
The strong clearance rate and sustained competition throughout the week reinforced the broader theme of the Inglis Weanling Sales Series 2026 results, which has been consistent upward momentum across all levels of the market.
Inglis Bloodstock chief executive Sebastian Hutch described the past month as “phenomenal”, pointing to the scale of growth achieved in a relatively short period.
He noted that the series’ combined turnover now sits well ahead of rival benchmarks, while also acknowledging the long-term turnaround in market positioning.
As attention shifts from the sale ring to the digital space, entries are now being accepted for the upcoming Inglis Digital June (Late) Online Sale, scheduled to run from June 19 to 24, featuring quality lots including G2-winning filly Double Market.
