Group 1-performed mare Bellatrix Star will take centre stage in a strong 275-lot catalogue assembled for the Inglis Digital September (Early) Sale, with proven race mares, broodmares and young stock offering considerable depth as the Southern Hemisphere breeding season gets under way.
The Inglis Digital September Early Sale 2026 brings together racing and breeding prospects from several leading Australian stables and operations, with the catalogue open from September 4 to 9.
Bellatrix Star, a daughter of Star Witness, is the headline name after building a race record that places her among the more accomplished young mares to reach the public market this year. A Group 2 winner as a two-year-old, she developed further at three and reeled off three consecutive black-type victories during the 2024 Melbourne Spring Carnival.
That campaign culminated in a second-place finish behind Switzerland in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes, giving Bellatrix Star one of the strongest pieces of form in the catalogue.
Her spring campaign also saw her finish ahead of a sizeable group of high-class performers, among them Lady of Camelot, Growing Empire, Coleman, Traffic Warden, Oscar’s Fortune, Mornington Glory and I Am Unstoppable.
Bellatrix Star is one of only 12 fillies to have finished in the placings in the Coolmore Stud Stakes since 2015. Among those, only Sunlight, Invincible Star, C’est Magique and Swats That subsequently reached a public auction directly after their racing careers.
Her relatively brief 13-start career adds another layer of interest to her offering. Inglis Bloodstock Sales Manager and New Zealand representative Brett Gilding said the mare had made a strong impression when inspected at Cranbourne.
Gilding described her as “a beauty” and said Inglis would be seeking the strongest possible outcome for owner John Galvin and his partners.
While Bellatrix Star supplies the headline attraction, the Inglis Digital September Early Sale 2026 has considerable depth beyond its star mare.
Aeolian, by Fastnet Rock, is among the notable racing and breeding prospects. The four-year-old is a dual Northern Hemisphere winner and possesses a pedigree carrying Fastnet Rock, Dubawi and Galileo in three successive generations — three stallions whose influence on modern thoroughbred breeding has extended well beyond their own racing careers.
Chatterley, by Snitzel, is another mare with both racing performance and pedigree in her favour. She is a three-quarter sister to Group 1-performed juvenile Mamaragan and was Stakes-placed at both two and three.
Currently trained by Chris Waller, Chatterley has finished in the first three in half of her career starts, giving prospective future connections the option of continuing her racing career before she eventually joins the breeding ranks.
Broodmare Prospects Add Depth
Fly Lightly and Smokin’ Princess bring further broodmare appeal to the catalogue.
More Than Ready mare Fly Lightly is a half-sister to Group 1 winner Fenway and is being offered in foal to Home Affairs, whose first-season yearlings attracted considerable attention in 2026.
Smokin’ Princess, a Stakes-placed daughter of Fastnet Rock, also carries a pedigree with established broodmare potential. Fastnet Rock has continued to make an impact as a broodmare sire, with his daughters responsible for a substantial list of Stakes performers.
The numerical breakdown underlines the variety within the Inglis Digital September Early Sale 2026. Of the 275 lots, 141 are racehorses, including 64 racing fillies, while 60 are racehorse shares. The catalogue also contains 51 broodmares, 13 yearlings, eight unraced horses and two stallion shares.
Several other pedigrees stand out.
Ankareeda is a sister to a Group 2 winner and a half-sister to three other Stakes horses, including Group 1-placed Sentimental Hero. Autumn Secret is a daughter of Group 1 winner Secret Admirer and a half-sister to Group 1-performed juvenile Townsend.
Couples Retreat, by Super Seth, is already a four-time winner, while Eddie’s Charm is a winning half-sister to Group 2 winner and Group 1-placed Ameena.
Fife is the dam of Group 2 winner West of Swindon, while Thorsborne has already produced at the highest level as the dam of Group 1 winner Invincible Sage.
Among the younger racing prospects, Infusion was an $850,000 yearling and has already won at metropolitan level, while Silverado is an unraced Too Darn Hot colt and a half-brother to Group 1-placed Gallant Son.
The catalogue also includes mares carrying pregnancies to stallions including Hitotsu, Pierata, Portland Sky, Profiteer, Southport Tycoon and Written By. Yearlings and unnamed two-year-olds by Anders, Hitotsu, Maurice, Panthalassa, Pride Of Dubai, Shamus Award, Starspangledbanner and Written By provide another avenue for buyers looking towards future racing seasons.
Leading Stables Represented
Ciaron Maher heads the vendor list with 12 entries, while the catalogue also carries representation from Archibald Racing, Bjorn Baker, Lindsay Park, Matthew Smith, Widden, Michael Freedman, Gollan Racing, Bennett Racing, Cumani Racing, Langdale Park and Ultra Thoroughbreds.
The spread of vendors, coupled with horses ranging from established Group performers to unraced prospects and broodmares, gives the September catalogue a broad profile at an important stage of the Australasian breeding calendar.
The Inglis Digital September Early Sale 2026 concludes on Wednesday, September 9, with the final countdown beginning at 10am.
For Bellatrix Star, it will mark the next chapter after a short but accomplished racing career. For the wider catalogue, the sale offers a mix of proven performance, pedigree and future potential as the new breeding season gathers momentum.
