A strong market for proven broodmares was evident at the Inglis Digital July (Early) Online Sale, where Mindarie emerged as the top-priced lot after selling for $355,000 following an extended bidding contest. The eight-year-old mare was purchased by Western Australian breeder Robert Bavcevic, giving Mogumber Park its highest-ever sale result.

The sale marked a significant milestone for breeders and owners Colin Brown and Fiona Lacey, whose long association with Mindarie made the result particularly meaningful. Bred, foaled, raced and retired at Mogumber Park, the daughter of Safeguard has become one of the property’s standout success stories.

Mindarie has already established an impressive record as a broodmare, with her first two foals both becoming two-year-old Stakes winners in Western Australia. That achievement attracted widespread interest from buyers across the country and ultimately drove the bidding to $355,000.

Speaking after the sale, Fiona Lacey described the result as an emotional moment for the family.

“It’s the highest-priced horse we’ve ever sold, but it’s not just the amount,” she said. “She is by our stallion, she was born on our property, we raced her, her foals were born here and her dam Clarecastle was virtually a blue hen in Western Australia. She is WA through and through.”

Brown also praised the guidance received throughout the selling process, saying the timing and valuation advice proved accurate while acknowledging the support offered during the campaign.

Despite the financial success, the owners admitted parting with Mindarie marked the end of an era after following her journey from birth through to becoming an accomplished producer.

New owner Robert Bavcevic said Mindarie had long been on his shortlist and that he was determined to secure her.

“I quite enjoyed the bidding duel,” Bavcevic said. “She was a mare I really wanted to get.”

He noted that Mindarie’s production record, combined with a deep maternal pedigree featuring nine winners from 10 foals produced by her dam, made her an attractive addition to his growing broodmare band. Bavcevic added that he would now assess breeding options before selecting a stallion for the coming season.

The Inglis Digital July Sale results also featured two equal second-highest lots, with Summer Success, offered in foal to Stay Inside, and multiple Stakes winner Pivotal Ten each selling for $190,000. They were purchased by Corumbene Stud and Cambridge Stud respectively.

Among the other notable transactions were Wollzeile ($115,000), Palmanova ($105,000) and Ms Catherine ($100,000). The latest sale lifted the number of horses to achieve six-figure prices through Inglis Digital since the beginning of 2025 to 193, underlining continued confidence in the marketplace.

Another eye-catching purchase came when promising two-year-old filly Sweet Leaf was secured for $100,000 by Vahala Racing and SM & KB Bloodstock.

A maiden winner at Gunnedah before finishing fourth behind highly regarded colt Omolong at Rosehill, Sweet Leaf is now expected to be aimed at the Perth summer carnival.

Kyle Sutherland said the filly would first enjoy a spell in New South Wales before beginning her three-year-old preparation with trainer Matthew Smith, ahead of an eventual transfer to Stefan Vahala in Perth.

The team intends to target the Listed Placid Ark Stakes in November, believing the filly will be well suited to racing in Western Australia.

Attention will now shift to the Inglis Digital July (Late) Online Sale, scheduled for July 24-29, with accomplished mare Arctic Glamour among the headline entries.

The Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou-trained mare retires after earning more than $1 million during her racing career, highlighted by victories in the Group 2 Hot Danish Stakes and the Listed Reginald Allen Quality. She also finished runner-up in this year’s Group 1 Coolmore Classic after placing in six Group races during her career.

Arctic Glamour, originally purchased for $185,000 as a yearling, will be offered unreserved as a breeding prospect. Entries for the July (Late) sale remain open until July 22, with inspections available by appointment.

The Inglis Digital July Sale results once again demonstrated the strength of demand for proven broodmares and quality breeding prospects, with several sought-after mares commanding strong prices ahead of the upcoming breeding season.
