A gelding by I AM INVINCIBLE topped the 2025 Hong Kong International Sale (HKIS) at Sha Tin on Friday night, fetching a bid of HK$5 million from Philip Liu. The half-brother to Group 1-winning SUMMER PASSAGE led the way among a carefully curated selection of 17 horses offered by the Hong Kong Jockey Club. I AM INVINCIBLE’s progeny have already made their mark in Hong Kong, including Group 2 winner WISHFUL THINKER and 2024 HKIS graduate MARKWIN, who has earned HK$3.76 million, including a lucrative ISG Bonus.

The second-highest price of the night came for Lot 5, a gelding purchased by So Wing Keung for HK$4.6 million. With ties to 2004 Hong Kong Derby winner LUCKY OWNERS, the youngster boasts a pedigree that includes his dam Andresa, a full sister to four-time Group 1-winning mare MOSHEEN.

Lots 15 and 17 each commanded HK$4 million. The HKJC Racing Club Limited secured Lot 15, a bay son of SIYOUNI whose progeny include eight-time winner LEADING FORTUNE. Alan Chan acquired Lot 17, a chestnut by LOPE DE VEGA, the sire of six-time Hong Kong winner FAST MOST FURIOUS.

Yan Qing Lin made a notable purchase with Lot 6, a bay son of DEEP FIELD, for HK$3.6 million. The youngster’s dam, THE SOLOIST, is a half-sibling to Group 1-winning Hong Kong sprinter HOT KING PRAWN. Meanwhile, Lots 9 and 14 both went for HK$3.2 million. Cheung Kwai Po secured Lot 9, a brown son of NO NAY NEVER, sire of 2024 BMW Hong Kong Derby winner MASSIVE SOVEREIGN. Cheung Kwok Wing collected Lot 14, a chestnut by SMART MISSILE, whose offspring include the HK$8.57 million earner GREEN N WHITE.

The evening began with a successful HK$2.6 million bid from Louis Pong for Lot 1, a bay gelding by TORONADO. The same sire produced Lot 4, also purchased for HK$2.6 million by Fong Ching. Other notable sales included Lot 8, a grey son of DARCI BRAHMA bought by Fung Kok Po, owner of the ‘Smiling’ series of horses, and Lot 18, secured by Edwin Fong, who currently races two-time winner PARENTS’ LOVE.

KITTEN’S JOY will have his second runner in Hong Kong after TOP ACE, with Lot 7 selling for HK$2.5 million to Yip Shu Bun. Meanwhile, the HKJC Racing Club Limited added Lot 16 to its acquisitions, a brown son of PER INCANTO, full brother to BABY CRYSTAL, a winner at Sha Tin last January.

Danny Rolston, Executive Manager of International Sale/Owners Advisory Services for the Hong Kong Jockey Club, expressed confidence in the quality of the horses offered. “We’ve been really selective on the final group. Some of the horses at the lower end of the market this year represent great value. We’re confident that in another 12 months, we’ll be telling more stories like MARKWIN and NEW FUTURE FOLKS.”

The sale returned a total of HK$45.1 million, with an average price of HK$3.006 million and a median price of HK$2.6 million.
