Hyderabad racing is poised for a return, with the Hyderabad Race Club (HRC) now issuing an official notice for the commencement of Hyderabad Winter Races. According to the notice, the Board of Directors/Stewards of Hyderabad Race Club have decided to commence the Hyderabad Winter Races 2025–26 from Monday, 9th March 2026, adding that the sheet prospectus for the Hyderabad Winter Races 2025–26 will follow shortly.
The announcement comes after Hyderabad racing was suspended on 20 October 2025 following a major health scare in the stables. The shutdown was triggered by a serious outbreak of infectious respiratory diseases, including confirmed cases of Glanders—a highly contagious and potentially fatal equine disease—prompting racing authorities to halt operations immediately to prevent any further spread.
Following the suspension, the HRC implemented strict precautionary measures. Horses were placed under quarantine, veterinary monitoring was intensified, and the movement of animals was carefully regulated. These steps were taken in coordination with veterinary authorities to ensure the outbreak was contained and that the racing environment would be safe once activities resumed.
The restart of racing will also provide relief to the broader racing community connected with the centre, including trainers, jockeys, owners, and stable staff, while racegoers will once again have the opportunity to witness live racing in Hyderabad after the extended pause.
In another good news for racegoers, racing is set to resume at Bangalore Turf Club (BTC) as well. The club has announced fresh developments regarding the upcoming season, bringing optimism to the racing community. A communication dated 4 March 2026 from Bangalore Turf Club Limited has informed racing stakeholders about the schedule for the Bangalore Summer Meeting 2026.
According to the official letter issued by the club’s secretary, the Stewards of the BTC, have decided that the Bangalore Summer Meeting 2026 will be conducted from 19 April 2026 to 9 August 2026.
