The opening Class 4 National Hunt Maiden Hurdle saw Loriko deliver a professional effort under Harry Skelton for trainer Dan Skelton. Owned by Cherry Knoll Farm, M Ward & D Skelton, Loriko travelled smoothly and asserted in the closing stages to secure victory by 1¾ lengths over Katarcice, establishing an early winning note for connections. The Class 4 handicap steeple chase brought another strong display as Hurricane Bay produced a fluent round of jumping for trainer Lucy Wadham and jockey Tom Cannon. Running in the colours of The Hanseatic League, he stayed on well to defeat Pep Talking by 4¾ lengths, with Big Boy Barney taking third after a competitive chase.
In the mares’ handicap steeple chase, Catwalk Girl produced one of the more emphatic performances of the afternoon. Ridden by James King for trainer Max Comley and owned by The Galloping Dentist at 45 The Green, she asserted superiority in the latter stages to win by 12 lengths from Lady Jago, with Kit’s Coty finishing third.
The mares’ handicap hurdle saw Mermaids Cave continue the pattern of decisive victories across the card. Trained by James Owen and partnered by Jonathan Burke, she maintained a strong rhythm throughout to record a 10-length success over Mary, while Hope Rising completed the placings in third.
Braganza Bay added another clear-cut result in the Class 5 handicap hurdle for trainer Henry Daly. Under a confident ride from Sam Twiston-Davies and owned by Mr Kevin Byram, the winner travelled strongly and pulled away for an 11-length victory over Raby Mere, with Indian Sunbird finishing third.
The concluding National Hunt Flat race provided the most dominant winning margin of the meeting as St Julie impressed for trainer Nick Scholfield. Ridden by Jack Quinlan and owned by The Saints, she quickened clear in the final stages to win by 19 lengths from Island Getaway, while As You Were took third.
