Delhi Race Club has a long history dating back to 8 March 1926, when it was established at its present location in central New Delhi. It was earlier known as the Delhi Gymkhana Race Club and was formed to promote horse racing and Indian horse breeding. In its early stage, it worked like a gymkhana club with an oval-shaped track. The club was registered in 1940 under Section 25 of the Companies Act. From 29 April 1959, it began operating under Royal Western India Turf Club racing rules, while Gymkhana races continued until 1969. Today, the club remains active with fixtures and live races.
