The final nominees for The Hong Kong Jockey Club Champion Awards 2024/25 have been officially announced, setting the stage for one of the most anticipated ceremonies in Asian horse racing. The judging panel, comprising representatives from the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) and the Association of Hong Kong Racing Journalists, has revealed the contenders for the season’s top accolades.
The prestigious Horse of the Year title will be selected from the winners across all major categories, excluding the Champion Griffin division. Leading the sprinting category (1400m or below) is Ka Ying Rising, while the Champion Miler (over 1400m to under 1800m) nominees include Red Lion and Voyage Bubble.
In the middle-distance class (1800m to under 2200m), Romantic Warrior joins Voyage Bubble, who also features in the Champion Stayer (2200m and over) list—highlighting a remarkable versatility across distances.
The Champion Four-Year-Old category is a competitive field, showcasing Cap Ferrat, Ka Ying Rising, My Wish, and Rubylot. Meanwhile, nominees for the Champion Griffin, representing the most promising unraced imports, will be announced soon.
The six-member Judging Panel includes top executives from the HKJC—Mr Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges, Mr Andrew Harding, and Mr Greg Carpenter—alongside prominent journalists Mr Carlos Wu, Mr Ian Sham, and Mr Simon Leung.
The winners will be crowned during the official Hong Kong Champion Awards 2024/25 presentation ceremony on Friday, 11 July, with results also published on the HKJC’s official website.
