High Stakes at the Calcutta Derby: ₹79,06,250 Up for Grabs in Grade 1 Race

The most awaited event of winter season “The Calcutta Derby Stakes 2025” is finally taking place on Friday at Royal Calcutta Turf Club (RCTC). The derby which will take place at 3:30 pm today, is for fillies (4 years only) in which they will cover a distance of 2400 metres. Total prize money of whooping Rs. 79,06,250 will be distributed among the top four winners. The participants who will be battling it out against each other in this exciting event include CASTEEL, trained by Satish Narredu, IMPERIAL STAR trained by Rajesh Narredu, MESCALITO trained by S S Attaollahi, MYSTERIOUSSTRANGER trained by Adhiraj S Jodha, LADY SUNSHINE trained by Bharath Singh and AEROPOLI, CHAMPAGNESUPERNOVA, NOMITSI, and TRAKILA all trained by Aashay Doctor. The record holder for the Kolkata Derby is JULIETTE, who raced with 57.5 kgs and clinched victory on March 3, 2024, with a record time of 2:26.78 seconds.

The day will begin with The Cavalry Cup (Grade 5) for horses rated 1 to 26, covering a distance of 1200 metres at 12:00 pm. The total prize money for this race will be ₹3,00,000, to be distributed among the top four players. Fourteen horses will compete in this race, with the top three being ELEOS, INDIAN JACK, and MACCHIATO. Another race, The Perin Dalal Alokananda Stakes, will be a team race for fillies (3 years only) over 1200 metres, scheduled at 12:30 pm. The total prize money for this race is ₹14,28,000, and the horses participating include MORANO, ELEANORA, GALWAY GIRL, and POLKA DOT.

The LT General Jameel Mahmood Memorial Cup Div-1 (Grade 4) for horses rated between 21 to 46, where 1 to 26 is also eligible, will offer ₹4,00,000 in prize money. Fourteen horses will compete, with GOLDEN LIGHT, STAR CONCEPT, and STAR JUSTICE leading the field. The Lt. General Jameel Mahmood Memorial Cup Div-2 (Grade 4) race, scheduled for 1:30 pm, will have ₹4,00,000 in prize money, with SNOWPIERCER, MARCOLINI, and BIBURY among the top horses. The Bengal Area Cup, scheduled for 2:00 pm, will cover a distance of 1100 metres, with ₹5,00,000 in prize money and ten horses set to compete.

The sixth race, The Army Service Corps (ASC) Cup (Grade 3), will be for horses rated between 41 to 66, with ₹5,00,000 in prize money. Eight horses will participate, including WONDERFUL, SALOME, and EARTH. The Eastern Command Cup (Grade 2), covering 1100 metres, will be held at 3:00 pm, with ₹5,50,000 in prize money. Nine horses, including SOUP AND SANDWICH, TRUE MARSHAL, and GAZINO, will race for the top spots. Also the most interesting thing to look at is previous record holder LA DOMINATE is participating in this years event as well.

The ninth race, The Calcutta Champions Sprint Trophy (Grade 3), will take place at 4:00 pm over 1100 metres, with ₹19,80,000 in prize money. Six horses, including AGNOSTIC, MEROPI, and BLACK EAGLE, will compete in this exciting sprint. The final race of the day, The Red FM 93.5 Cup (Grade 3), scheduled for 4:30 pm, will cover 1100 metres. The total prize money for this race will be ₹5,00,000, and nine horses, including SEA OF CHARM, DUBAI GOLD, and BLACK COFFEE, will vie for the top positions.
