A varied programme of racing competition will return to Haydock Park on Friday, 22 May, as the venue prepares to stage a seven-race card featuring novice contests, maiden races, Listed action and competitive handicap events. The afternoon meeting will begin at 1:45pm and continue through to the concluding race at 5:15pm, with prize money ranging from £8,500 to £70,000 across the card. Distances will vary from sprint trips over six furlongs to middle-distance assignments, creating a balanced schedule that will test both speed and stamina throughout the afternoon.

The meeting will bring together a mixture of emerging runners and more experienced campaigners, with several contests designed to provide younger horses with opportunities to progress while the feature race will offer a higher level of competition.

Opening proceedings, the Fillies’ Novice Stakes (Class 3) will take place at 1:45pm and will be contested over 1m 2f 70y for prize money of £15,000. A field of six runners will line up including Ceinture d’Orion, Fashion’s Fancy, Ladykirk, Nochebuena, Shadida and Tribal Queen. The opening contest will provide an early opportunity for lightly raced fillies to continue their progression over a middle-distance trip and establish themselves in novice company.

Continuing the afternoon programme, the Maiden Fillies’ Stakes (Class 3) will follow at 2:20pm, carrying prize money of £13,000 over a distance of six furlongs. The contest has attracted 12 runners, with Aurora Valkyrie, Bint Minzaal, Esha’a, Harlequin Gift, Jazz Queen and Libertango among the expected participants. The race will likely provide an important developmental test for runners seeking to gain valuable experience at this stage of the season.

Taking centre stage on the card, the Cecil Frail Stakes (Class 1, Listed Race) will be held at 2:55pm and will carry prize money of £70,000 over six furlongs. The feature race has assembled a competitive field of 16 runners, creating one of the strongest contests of the meeting. Angel Shared, Lady Roxby, Magic Basma, Paris Babe, Powdering and Rhyme Dust are among those expected to take their places in the Listed event. The race will provide a higher-class examination and should become one of the major focal points of the afternoon programme.

Moving into the middle portion of the programme, the Novice Stakes (Class 3) will begin at 3:30pm and will be run over 6f 218y with £13,000 available in prize money. A compact field of four runners, featuring Pat’s Cash, The Bookkeeper, Time For The Moon and Tribal Appearance, will take part. Although smaller in numbers, the contest will still provide an important opportunity for developing runners to build experience.

Attention will then switch towards handicap action, with the Handicap Stakes (Class 5) at 4:05pm carrying prize money of £8,500 over 1m 2f 70y. The race has attracted 13 runners, including Imperial Trooper, Dragonflame, Norflondonforever, Everyoneknowsadave, Pol Roger and Joseph. The contest will bring together a competitive field over a distance capable of producing a closely matched finish.

The later stages of the meeting will continue, with another Handicap Stakes (Class 5) scheduled for 4:40pm. The race will again be run across 1m 2f 70y, carrying £8,500 in prize money and featuring 12 runners, including Bnaider, Impossible Mission, Carwyn, Kokoluna, Central Command and Oathbound. The event will continue the middle-distance theme during the latter part of the card.

Bringing the day’s action to a close, the Green Ribbon Handicap Stakes (Class 5) will take place at 5:15pm over 7f 218y for prize money of £8,500. The concluding race has attracted 12 runners, including Blue Mantle, Sovereign Bay, Yorkshire Queen, Kiss For An Angel, Alkumatic Jo Jo and Senor Campanaro. The finale will complete a programme that offers variety in both distance and class throughout the day.

The overall card will provide a broad examination across several racing divisions and should produce an informative afternoon featuring developing talent and experienced runners competing across different race conditions.
