The 2024/25 Hong Kong racing season is set to bow out in style with the highly anticipated Season Finale at Happy Valley on Wednesday, 16 July. A night brimming with entertainment, emotion, and elite horse racing promises to draw a vibrant crowd as fans, tourists, and racing enthusiasts gather to celebrate the season’s end. Beyond the thundering hooves on the turf, the evening blends live performances, fireworks, and memorable fan experiences, making it much more than just a race meeting.

One of the major attractions of the night will be the presentation of prestigious accolades. The Champion Griffin title and the Tony Cruz Award—given to the leading homegrown jockey—will be formally conferred during a special ceremony in the Parade Ring. The Tony Cruz Award race remains wide open, with top local riders Matthew Poon, Matthew Chadwick, and Derek Leung locked in a nail-biting contest. With Poon on 36 wins, Chadwick close behind at 35, and Leung at 34, every ride on the night will count. All three will be back in action for what could be a title-defining night under the lights at Happy Valley.

Equally competitive is the battle for Champion Griffin honours. After detailed review by the judging panel following recent race meetings, three impressive young horses—CROSSBORDERPEGASUS, MAGNIFIQUE, and SKY JEWELLERY—have emerged as the final nominees. The award celebrates the most promising new horses of the season, and all eyes will be on which name is called during the glittering presentation.

Adding flair to the evening, the Happy Wednesday Music Festival is set to infuse Latin rhythms and dance beats into the Happy Valley atmosphere. Starting at 5pm, racegoers at the Beer Garden can groove to energetic DJ sets by Sarah and Lucie. The tempo rises with a dazzling live performance from international vocal and dance sensation Rechelle Mansour, accompanied by spirited samba dancers. Following the fifth race, a spectacular pyrotechnics show will light up the Hong Kong skyline, providing an unforgettable visual high point to the night.

The fan experience doesn’t end there. One of the most heartwarming traditions, the Jockeys’ Parade, gives visitors a chance to cheer on their favourite riders from up close. Held on the turf track, the parade allows for selfies, high-fives, and lucky fans may even catch exclusive mini horse plushies thrown into the crowd. With various plushie designs available, these playful giveaways are expected to be a big hit with both kids and adults.

Gates open at 4:30pm, and the first race begins at 6:30pm. With nine races scheduled, fanfare in full swing, and celebrations planned throughout the evening, Happy Valley is ready to deliver a fitting farewell to a memorable racing season. Whether you’re there for the competition, the music, or simply to soak up the vibrant energy, the Season Finale promises a night to remember.
