Under a sunlit sky at Flemington, emotions ran high as Half Yours — a horse once sold through Inglis Digital for just $305,000 — stormed to victory in the $10 million Group 1 Melbourne Cup, marking a landmark moment for both his connections and the world’s leading online thoroughbred sales platform.
The roar of the crowd carried a mix of disbelief and elation as Tony and Calvin McEvoy, the father-son training duo, embraced in the Flemington mounting yard. Their five-year-old star, a son of St Jean, had just achieved what few ever do — completing the coveted Caulfield Cup–Melbourne Cup double.
From Online Sale to Racing Immortality
Barely a year ago, Half Yours was offered as part of the Halo Racing Unreserved Reduction Sale on Inglis Digital, following the passing of respected owner-breeder Colin McKenna. Purchased by Belmont Bloodstock and McEvoy Mitchell Racing, the gelding had modest credentials — just two wins from five starts and less than $40,000 in earnings.
Fast-forward twelve months, and his story reads like a racing fairy tale. With six wins from ten starts since joining the McEvoy stable — including the G1 Melbourne Cup, G1 Caulfield Cup, G3 Naturalism Stakes, and the Listed Caloundra Cup — Half Yours has now amassed $9.2 million in prizemoney.
He also joins an exclusive club as only the 13th horse in history to claim the Caulfield–Melbourne Cup double, cementing his place among racing’s modern legends.
Family, Legacy, and a Moment for the Ages
“What a joy. This is our great race and it’s just so special to win it,” said an emotional Tony McEvoy, reflecting on the significance of the victory. “The Melbourne Cup has been everything to our family — Kerrin has won it three times, my brother owned a horse that ran second, and now for us to train the winner together… it’s amazing.”
Calvin, still absorbing the magnitude of the achievement, added: “Unbelievable. I saw him at the 600m still on the bridle and thought ‘he’s got this’. It was an incredible ride from Jamie Melham. This is what it’s all about — teamwork, patience, and belief.”
A Defining Moment for Inglis Digital
The result also stands as a milestone for Inglis Digital, which now counts Half Yours among its most remarkable success stories. The platform has produced 112 Group 1 winners since 2018, with Half Yours becoming its fourth outright G1 winner — joining She’s Extreme, Mariamia, and Bella Vella.
“It’s an unbelievable result,” said Inglis Digital Business Manager Nick Melmeth. “We’re so proud of the owners, Tony, Calvin, and Damon. This moment encapsulates what Inglis Digital is all about — opportunity and accessibility. I’m sure Colin McKenna would’ve been watching over today.”
The platform’s next sale — the Inglis Digital November (Early) Sale — closes for bidding tomorrow at 10am, offering another chance for buyers to uncover the next Half Yours.
Beyond Flemington
At Morphettville, Air Assault (Justify) added further joy for Inglis graduates, claiming the Listed John Letts Cup — his seventh career Stakes success. The Andrew Gluyas-trained five-year-old, bred by Toorak Thoroughbred Breeding Trust, is a Premier Yearling Sale graduate of Stonehouse Thoroughbreds and now boasts earnings of $900,000.
