The three-year-old filly, a daughter of Hall of Famer Curlin, produced the decisive performance in Race 9, a maiden special weight contest for fillies and mares aged three and older over a mile on turf. Making just her third career appearance, Curly Sue showed promising development to secure the final leg of the afternoon’s feature sequence.
The Gulfstream Park racing results from Monday reflected a mix of experienced campaigners and emerging talent, with several runners producing eye-catching performances throughout the programme.
Bayou Brigid began the sequence with victory in Race 4, followed by Titan in Race 5. Road to Midnight then delivered one of the standout performances of the day, scoring by six and a half lengths in Race 6. Saratoga Flash added another winner in Race 7, while He Be Hoppin continued the momentum in Race 8 before Curly Sue completed the final result.
The total amount distributed during the afternoon reached $1,072,090 after combining the day’s contributions with the existing balance carried into the programme.
The result added further interest to Gulfstream Park’s Royal Palm Meet, which continues through August 31. Monday’s programme also featured the introduction of several new multi-race formats designed to provide additional variety to the daily racing schedule.
Live racing returns on Saturday, with the next six-race sequence scheduled across Races 6 through 11. The opening contest will feature two-year-old fillies competing over six furlongs on the main track, including Girvy Girl, a $475,000 daughter of Girvin making her first start for trainer Saffie Joseph Jr.
The $70,000 Lady’s Island overnight handicap will also feature on Saturday’s card in Race 8, bringing together fillies and mares over five furlongs on turf. Trainer Victor Barboza Jr. will be represented by Great Venezuela, Tiffany Gold and Le Amazonia, a trio with 17 combined victories.
Several individual performances stood out during Monday’s action. Road to Midnight produced one of the most impressive efforts of the afternoon when winning Race 6 by six and a half lengths for trainer David Braddy. The juvenile, purchased for $100,000 at the OBS April Two-Year-Olds in Training Sale by Champion Equine LLC, became another promising performer from the first crop of Florida stallion Roadster.
Jockey Diego Herrera enjoyed a productive afternoon, partnering Road to Midnight before guiding Saratoga Flash to victory in Race 7. The double helped strengthen his position at the top of the Royal Palm Meet jockey standings.
Leonel Reyes also enjoyed a successful card, recording victories aboard Bayou Brigid and Curly Sue, while apprentice Pedro Pena completed a double through Titan and He Be Hoppin.
Trainer Heather Smullen celebrated two winners on the programme as Facet and Bayou Brigid both found success, adding another positive chapter to Gulfstream Park’s summer racing action.
