Lea Farms LLC’s Super Chow looks to notch his tenth stakes triumph on 27th December (Saturday) at Gulfstream Park when he lines up in the Mr. Prospector Stakes (G3). The seven-furlong sprint for three-year-olds and older is set to feature up to eight entrants, with the five-year-old son of Lord Nelson chasing a fourth graded-level success.

Super Chow’s chances could hinge on the participation of White Abarrio, listed as the even-money morning-line favourite, whose status may not be confirmed until Friday. Regardless, trainer Jorge Delgado is confident his runner is prepared to return after a brief spell off.

The five-year-old comes back following a two-month hiatus after finishing fifth in a Delaware Park stakes, a race in which he failed to showcase his usual early speed and trailed the field for much of the contest.

“We’re very pleased with how he’s shaping up,” Delgado said. “We gave him some time after his last outing, and he’s really coming around. His morning workouts indicate he’s ready for a solid performance.”

Although Super Chow has achieved most of his success at six furlongs, Delgado believes the extra distance will be manageable. The gelding finished sixth in last year’s Mr. Prospector while contesting a pressured pace, but the trainer is optimistic about Saturday’s setup.

“He’s already captured a graded race at seven furlongs in New York,” Delgado noted. “It was on a different surface, but with the right trip, it shouldn’t be an issue. He drew well, and Jorge Ruiz knows him perfectly.”

Ruiz returns as the rider, having guided Super Chow to victories in both of their previous meetings, including the Gulfstream Park Sprint during the 2024–2025 Championship Meet. He also piloted the Kentucky-bred to a Pimlico allowance win in 2022.

Super Chow’s graded résumé includes a commanding front-running win in the 2024 Toboggan Stakes at Aqueduct, where he prevailed by 4¼ lengths, followed shortly after by a six-furlong Tom Fool victory at the same track.

White Abarrio, under Saffie Joseph Jr., was entered in the Mr. Prospector with the aim of using it as preparation for the Pegasus World Cup Invitational (G1) on January 24 at Gulfstream. A final call on his participation is expected near race day. White Abarrio captured last year’s Pegasus after finishing second in the Mr. Prospector.

If White Abarrio opts out, Godolphin’s Knightsbridge is likely to assume favoritism. The Bill Mott-trained four-year-old, rated second on the morning line, seeks his first stakes victory in three graded attempts. Knightsbridge was third in the 2024 Perryville Stakes (G3) at Keeneland and previously recorded dominant allowance wins at Churchill Downs and Gulfstream.

This season, Knightsbridge has raced twice: second in a Gulfstream optional allowance in February and then, after a nine-month break, winning a seven-furlong optional allowance at Aqueduct on November 15 by 2¾ lengths under Junior Alvarado, who rides again Saturday.

Chiefswood Stables Limited’s Playmea Tune enters off a seven-furlong optional allowance triumph on Woodbine’s synthetic surface. Trained by Jose Carroll, the five-year-old Maclean’s Music gelding finished fifth in last year’s Mr. Prospector, his sole dirt start in twelve races. Hall of Fame jockey John Velazquez has the mount.

Wound Up, owned by David Bernsen LLC, Mia Familiar Racing Stable, and Corey Russo, makes his first start for trainer Jose D’Angelo. The Mendelssohn five-year-old, a ten-time winner on the West Coast, will be ridden by Edgard Zayas.

Rounding out the field are Holly Crest Farm’s Great Navigator, a New Jersey-bred stakes winner; Gray V Train Racing LLC’s Hold My Bourbon, who led early in last Saturday’s Harlan’s Holiday; and Sherry Racing’s Lethal Speed.
