The Friday feature at Gulfstream Park delivered a sharp reminder of Rezasrolex’s enduring class as the experienced sprinter powered clear to land the Race 6 contest over 5 ½ furlongs on Tapeta in emphatic style. Sent straight to the front from the inside draw, the 5-year-old never relinquished control, stamping authority on the race from the outset before drawing away in the final stages to win with something in hand.

The son of Bucchero, trained by Robert Cotran, was returning from a two-month break following a below-par effort in graded company at Keeneland. But there was little sign of rust as he quickly established rhythm under Edwin Gonzalez, setting a strong tempo of 22.50 seconds for the opening quarter and 45.00 for the half-mile while tracking pressure from Coppola. When asked to extend in the straight, he responded decisively, putting daylight between himself and his rivals.

Rezasrolex completed the 5 ½ furlongs in a slick 1:02.95, finishing 4 ½ lengths clear. Coppola held second after a sustained chase, with Eamonn finishing strongly late to take third, just half a length further back.

Trainer Joe Orseno admitted to pre-race nerves but praised the gelding’s professionalism and ability to bounce back after a demanding previous outing. He also suggested that the horse’s freshening had played a key role in the performance, noting how comfortably he travelled throughout the contest.

Attention now turns to a potential next assignment at Saratoga in early August, where connections are considering stepping him up in company for a valuable five-furlong test.

Saturday’s programme at Gulfstream Park will feature a strong afternoon of racing highlighted by several competitive stakes contests across different distances and surfaces. Among the key attractions is a 1 1/16-mile contest for three-year-old fillies on Tapeta, alongside a seven-furlong sprint featuring seasoned sprinters and a further stakes race for developing three-year-olds. The card has attracted competitive fields and brings together a mix of established performers and rising talent.

Keith Asmussen will make the trip from Churchill Downs for a notable ride aboard Haute Diva for trainer Patrick Biancone in the fillies’ feature. The filly, previously successful on dirt and placed in competitive company, will be attempting Tapeta for the first time, adding an intriguing dimension to her profile.

In the sprint feature, Classic of Course arrives in consistent form, having repeatedly performed at a high level in stakes company. The experienced runner carries strong credentials into a competitive field that includes several proven rivals.

Meanwhile, Bolero Bay will attempt to rebound in the closing stakes contest after a determined front-running success earlier in the season, though he will face a wide draw in a deep and competitive lineup.

Looking ahead, attention also turns to Saratoga, where several Gulfstream-based performers are set to feature on a major summer stage, including top-level contenders across multiple Grade 1 contests. Among them, Commandment, a dual graded-stakes winner earlier in the season, headlines a strong local contingent stepping into elite company.
