Ghostlight Leads Gulfstream Park’s Monday Race Card

Ghostlight prepares for Gulfstream Park Monday races
By | 24 Aug 2026 | Mumbai

Gulfstream Park’s Monday programme will feature a competitive series of races, with several runners arriving with strong recent form and others seeking to make an impression after breaks from competition. Among them, Ghostlight will be aiming to build on an encouraging first appearance for trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. when lining up in Race 4.

Gulfstream Park Monday races

The 3-year-old Ghostzapper filly will return from a three-month break for the 5½-furlong contest on Tapeta. Ghostlight made a successful first start for Joseph, returning from a two-month absence to score by four lengths in a $12,500 maiden claimer. A repeat performance would put the youngster firmly among the runners to watch.

Mo Java, trained by Joel Santiano, will move away from the rail after finishing narrowly short at the same level on Monday.

Race 5 will bring together a sizeable field of 3-year-old fillies and mares over five furlongs on turf. Saffie Joseph Jr. will have two representatives, with Exquisite returning after a close second in a maiden special weight on her first attempt on turf.

Her stablemate Come On Teesha will make a career debut after recording a notably quick workout at Palm Meadows. Victor Barboza Jr. will also saddle two runners, The Coromoto and Modo Leyenda.

The Coromoto was narrowly denied when finishing second last time, while Modo Leyenda will move into claiming company after slow starts in two consecutive maiden special weight appearances. Winning Defense, trained by David Fawkes, will also be considered after finishing third behind Exquisite last time following a troubled trip.

A full field is set for Race 6, a mile-and-70-yard contest for 3-year-olds and older horses on Tapeta. The evenly matched nature of the field should make this one of the more closely contested races on the card, with several runners capable of improving on their recent efforts.

Race 7 will switch back to turf for a five-furlong optional claiming allowance. Test Factor, trained by Rohan Crichton, will make a second start following a four-month layoff after producing a solid effort against slightly stronger opposition.

Apprentice Pedro Peno will take the ride, while Banded Rocket, from the Carlos David stable, will look to turn around a third-place finish in which a slow beginning left the runner with ground to make up.

The seven-furlong Race 8 will see Grim Reaper drop into claiming company after holding competitive form against stronger opposition in recent starts. The Joe Orseno-trained runner will be one of several with credentials to make an impact.

Tshiebwe will return from a three-month absence as the horse looks to repeat a previous success at the same level. Dune Road will make a first start for trainer Jose D’Angelo following a solid third-place effort.

The programme will conclude with Race 9, a 1 1/16-mile turf contest for fillies and mares. Vanish will make a first start for Saffie Joseph Jr., with the trainer looking to get an immediate response from the new stable member.

Getaholdayourself also enters the race with some momentum after securing a maiden victory last time. A slow start in that outing did not prevent a strong finish, and the outside position could provide an opportunity for a cleaner beginning this time.

The final race promises to provide a fitting test of stamina and consistency, with several runners arriving on the back of useful recent performances.

Away from the individual races, attention will also centre on the jockey standings during the closing stages of the Royal Palm Meet. Samy Camacho and Diego Herrera are level at the top with 81 victories apiece, setting up an intriguing finish with only four racing days remaining.

Camacho moved alongside Herrera after a two-win Sunday. The jockey also enjoyed a three-win day on Saturday while Herrera was riding at Del Mar.

Herrera is scheduled to have six mounts on Monday, while Camacho is booked for two rides. With the standings finely balanced, each result could have a direct bearing on the final outcome of the meeting.

The 2026 Sunshine Meet will begin on Friday, September 4, with live racing scheduled four days a week — Thursday through Sunday.

For followers of the meeting, Monday’s card will offer a mixture of proven performers, returning runners and newcomers, with Ghostlight among those carrying particular interest after a convincing start under a new trainer.
