Green Falcon secured his first career victory in the Colwick Cup at Nottingham Racecourse on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, giving jockey Saffie Osborne a double on Construction Day. Trained by David Menuisier, the three-year-old produced a determined performance over two miles to end a run of eight starts without a win.

Green Falcon had finished third over a longer distance at Ffos Las on his previous outing, showing signs of improvement as he tackled a more demanding trip. The step up to two miles at Nottingham brought further progress, with the gelding travelling comfortably before taking the lead three furlongs from the finish.

Osborne’s mount then held off Believitanducan, who carried top weight, to win by two and three-quarter lengths. Green Falcon wandered across the track in the closing stages but maintained his advantage to secure the feature race. The victory offered further evidence that the longer distance suited him and that he had the potential to develop into a capable staying handicapper.

Osborne was pleased with the performance and believed her mount still had considerable room for improvement. She explained that Green Falcon had become slightly uncertain about his direction in the straight but had finished the race comfortably. His ability to travel smoothly without requiring constant encouragement had also made him straightforward to ride.

The jockey had been encouraged by his previous effort at Ffos Las, where she felt he had shown the ability to compete successfully from his handicap mark despite still being relatively inexperienced. His Nottingham performance strengthened that impression, particularly as he faced established stayers over the longer distance.

Osborne also looked ahead to the gelding’s future, expressing confidence that he could continue to improve and develop into a stronger performer during the following season.

Green Falcon Colwick Cup Victory Completes Osborne’s Double

The Green Falcon Colwick Cup success marked the second leg of a Construction Day double for Osborne, who had earlier partnered Enriched to victory in the opening 31st Oct Halloween Spooktacular Novice Stakes. The two wins gave the jockey a productive afternoon at Nottingham, with the Colwick Cup providing a notable feature result.

Green Falcon’s progress over two miles added to the significance of the victory. After showing promise at Ffos Las, he demonstrated that he could maintain his effort over a longer trip and compete effectively against more experienced stayers. His performance also gave Menuisier an encouraging indication of the gelding’s prospects for the next season.

Leading Role Makes Winning Debut for Charlie Appleby

Earlier on the Nottingham card, Leading Role made an impressive start to his racing career by winning the £40,000 British Stallion Studs EBF Novice Stakes for trainer Charlie Appleby. The Godolphin-owned colt, a son of Teofilo, stayed prominent throughout the extended-mile contest before producing a strong finish under William Buick.

Buick asked Leading Role to quicken two furlongs from home, and the newcomer responded well to secure victory by half a length. Space Bob, trained by Ed Walker and a close relative of Queen Anne Stakes winner Ten Bob Tony, finished second after offering a competitive challenge.

Buick praised the colt’s debut and noted that his pedigree suggested he could improve over longer distances. He expected Leading Role to benefit from further development during the winter and indicated that a move up to a mile and a quarter could suit him in the future.

Leading Role’s performance provided an encouraging start for Appleby and Godolphin, while the narrow winning margin reflected the competitive nature of the novice contest. The colt’s first outing suggested that he could make further progress as he gained experience and maturity.
