Great Southern Weanling Sale catalogue 2026
The scale and quality of this year’s Great Southern Weanling Sale catalogue 2026 underline the growing reputation of the auction as a key early proving ground for the next generation of racing talent.
The catalogue brings together progeny of 105 stallions, forming a broad cross-section of established sires and emerging names shaping the current breeding landscape. Among the most prominent are Alabama Express, Anamoe, Castelvecchio, Ghaiyyath, Harry Angel, Hellbent, Home Affairs, Ole Kirk, Proisir, Savabeel, So You Think, Starspangledbanner, Stay Inside, Street Boss, Super Seth, Too Darn Hot, Toronado and Wootton Bassett.
Alongside these proven influences, attention will also be drawn to an exciting wave of first-season sires represented in the catalogue. The list includes Benbatl, Chaldean, Cylinder, Doull, Generation, Gold Trip, Hawaii Five Oh, King Colorado, King’s Gambit, Lofty Strike, Mo’unga, Native Trail, Oxley Road, Ozzmosis and Shinzo, adding an additional layer of intrigue for buyers assessing long-term potential.
The draft is further strengthened by the involvement of 48 vendors, featuring many of the country’s most respected nurseries. Among them are Gilgai, Burnewang North, Widden, Rosemont, Twin Hills, Blue Gum, Three Bridges, Cornerstone, Stonehouse, Rushton Park, Armidale, Bell River, Crossley Thoroughbreds, Fairhill Farm, Longwood, Middlebrook Valley Lodge, Musk Creek, Supreme Thoroughbreds, Ponderosa Park and Penfold Thoroughbreds.
Interest in the sale has also been bolstered by the consistent rise in racetrack success stories emerging from past editions. The Great Southern Weanling Sale catalogue 2026 arrives against a backdrop of results that have reinforced the auction’s standing as a reliable source of elite performers.
Among the standout graduates, Streisand, purchased for $22,000, developed into a top-class juvenile filly, capturing the G1 Blue Diamond and finishing second in the G1 Golden Slipper while accumulating $2.4 million in prize earnings. Another notable success story is Well Written, unbeaten through six starts including a Group 1 and the $4 million The Kiwi, having been secured for just $32,500 as a weanling.
Further examples such as Calamari Ring, Alibaba and Lassified continue to underline the consistent depth of quality emerging from the sale ring, strengthening confidence around its long-term influence on top-level racing.
Commercial momentum has also been a defining feature of recent renewals, particularly within the pinhooking sector, where returns across all price brackets have drawn attention. Figures such as $335,000 into $1.3 million, $40,000 into NZ$360,000, $160,000 into $375,000, $60,000 into $250,000 and $20,000 into $210,000 highlight the range of opportunities that have been realised in recent seasons.
Inglis’ Victorian Bloodstock Manager James Price reflected on the strong vendor representation and the quality assembled for this year’s edition, noting the depth of pedigrees and the importance of continued momentum across the weanling series.
He highlighted the presence of significant drafts by leading sires including Toronado, Cylinder, Home Affairs, Shinzo, Anamoe and Ghaiyyath, while also pointing to the standout draft assembled by Burnewang North as a particular feature of the catalogue.
According to Price, the combination of quality stock and proven results continues to reinforce the appeal of the auction across a wide cross-section of participants, from trainers and owners to agents, syndicators and traders.
The catalogue strength is further complemented by incentive opportunities, with all weanlings purchased at the Great Southern Weanling Sale eligible for the $12 million Inglis Race Series, which includes the $2 million Millennium, the $1 million Pink Bonus Series and the $5 million Xtra Bonus Series.
Supplementary entries remain open until 5pm on Wednesday 3 June, offering vendors a final opportunity to join a sale that continues to build both scale and reputation with each passing year.
As anticipation builds toward Oaklands Junction, the focus now turns to the parade ring and sale arena, where the next wave of racing prospects will step into the spotlight.
