Kaiya Fraser celebrated the biggest victory of his career as Dr Rascal produced another unbeaten performance to land the Group 2 Vintage Stakes over seven furlongs at Goodwood Racecourse on Wednesday. The promising two-year-old showed courage and determination to prevail in a tightly contested finish, providing Fraser with his first Group-race success and handing trainer Oliver Cole a landmark victory of his own.

Dr Rascal maintained his perfect record with a third consecutive victory, confirming the promise he had shown earlier in the season. Drawn into a challenging position approaching the closing stages, Fraser committed to a narrow opening along the inside rail inside the final furlong. Although the colt briefly lost momentum as the gap tightened, he responded strongly once in the clear and found enough to repel the late challenge of Haffner.
The winning margin was half a length, with Haffner finishing second after staying on well in the closing stages. Race favourite Al Hudaiba also finished with purpose but had to settle for third, a short head behind the runner-up after carrying a weight penalty.
The victory marked an important milestone for Oliver Cole, who secured his first Group-race winner as the sole licence holder. It also continued a notable family connection with the race, coming two decades after his father, Paul Cole, saddled his most recent Vintage Stakes winner.
Dr Rascal has now emerged as one of the more exciting juvenile prospects of the season. By French Derby winner Sottsass, the colt has displayed both speed and resilience in his opening three starts, suggesting he could continue to progress over longer distances later in the campaign.
The Goodwood Vintage Stakes 2026 also highlighted the depth of this year’s juvenile division, with Haffner producing a strong effort for Aidan O’Brien and Al Hudaiba running with credit despite conceding weight to his less experienced rivals.
Oliver Cole recorded his fifth career winner at the Qatar Goodwood Festival, including runners previously trained in partnership with Paul Cole, while Fraser opened his festival account with a memorable breakthrough success.
