Ridden by Joao Moreira, the Irish import represented Spain in the special eight-runner contest and chose the occasion to record his first victory in Hong Kong. Despite wet conditions, a large crowd gathered at Happy Valley to support their chosen national representatives as racing and football themes combined for a unique evening fixture.

Forza Toro was quickly into stride from barrier one, allowing Moreira to secure a favourable position along the inside rail at the head of the field. The four-year-old travelled strongly throughout and maintained control of the race, building a clear advantage before turning for home.

The gelding found another gear in the final 250 metres, stretching away from his rivals with authority. Podium, carrying the colours of Norway and trained by David Eustace, finished second under Matthew Poon, while France representative Precision Hope, prepared by David Hayes and ridden by Alexis Badel, stayed on for third place.

Forza Toro’s victory marked a significant milestone for trainer Caspar Fownes, strengthening his challenge for a fifth trainers’ championship title. The success also highlighted the improvement shown by the horse after adjustments aimed at sharpening his race-day performance.

Forza Toro’s Happy Valley victory came in the football-themed EIGHT TO GLORY race, a special eight-horse contest celebrating the remaining nations in the football tournament’s quarter-finals.

The unique event saw each runner represent one of the eight countries, with jockeys wearing specially designed silks inspired by national flags and colours. The combination of international football and horse racing created a distinctive atmosphere for racegoers at the Hong Kong venue.

Forza Toro’s victory was made possible by a polished front-running display from Moreira, who kept the horse relaxed before producing a decisive finish when the race reached its crucial stage.

The result provided Forza Toro with a breakthrough Hong Kong success and added another notable moment to Happy Valley’s summer racing programme.
