Veteran campaigner Wolfie’s Dynaghost signalled his readiness for another major assignment when he moved smoothly over the turf on Sunday, continuing preparations for the Fort Lauderdale Stakes at Gulfstream Park later this month.
The seven-year-old gelding, a longtime homebred for Woodslane Farm, worked four furlongs in a controlled 49.55 seconds over a firm surface at Palm Meadows, Gulfstream’s training base in Palm Beach County. The move ranked among the quicker efforts of the morning and was completed with ease, suggesting the seasoned performer remains firmly on song.
Wolfie’s Dynaghost is slated to line up in the $200,000 Fort Lauderdale Stakes, run over 1 1/8 miles on December 20. The race serves as an important local stepping stone toward the Pegasus World Cup Turf in January and will mark his second appearance at the meet under the care of trainer Brian Lynch.
Fort Lauderdale Stakes build-up continues
The gelding comes into the Fort Lauderdale Stakes on the back of a decisive front-running victory in the River City Stakes on November 8, where he drew clear late to score by nearly three lengths. That success came at the same distance and represented an ideal introduction to his new surroundings.
Across a lengthy and productive career, Wolfie’s Dynaghost has compiled 13 victories from 31 starts, nine of them at stakes level. His résumé includes a Grade 2 success in the Autumn Stakes in 2023, and his earnings have climbed beyond $1.2 million, underlining both his durability and consistency at the top level.
Trainer Brian Lynch remains optimistic as the gelding advances toward his next test. “Let’s hope we’re far from being done,” he said. “He’s certainly got us going in the right direction and we’re excited about running him back here in the Ft. Lauderdale.”
Lynch also kept another promising runner ticking over on the same morning, as Stone Farm’s Litigation completed a half-mile in 49.40 seconds on the Palm Meadows turf. The effort ranked among the best of the session and came ahead of a planned start in the Janus on the December 20 program.
Racing at Gulfstream Park resumes on Thursday with an eight-race card as the Championship Meet rolls on. The afternoon program brings together a mix of established performers and improving types across dirt, turf, and all-weather surfaces.
Several runners return off recent victories, while others seek to build momentum following solid seasonal campaigns. Sprint contests, allowance events, and a featured race for Florida-bred fillies and mares add variety to the card, offering a broad snapshot of the depth on show early in the meet.
Recent action has also highlighted strong riding performances, with leading jockeys continuing to make their presence felt across the program through well-judged rides and consistent finishes.
